End of the day Friday at work + boredom = what you see above  :D

What is the optimal spacing for P4 buttons 8,9,10a,10b, and 15c?

the builder is going to make the following changes on the control panel:

1. Move buttons closer together - Capcom says 1.5" Center to Center, but I asked to get the as close as we can to the lips touching.
2. Rotate the 3-4 player joystick so that up is up.  Rotate to the joystick art to match
3. Lose the 4-way joystick.  I have a 60-1 Ms Pac and a dedicated Donkey Kong machine, so most of the 4-way games i'd play are covered.  Also is there a 8-way / 4-way switchable joystick I should ask for?

Sorry again for all the threads and drama.  Spending a lot on this thing and when you guys chimed in right away with what  was wrong with it, I sort of freaked out.  But man did I learn a lot.  Better force them to make it right than to take delivery and just "live with it".

The deciding factor was yesterday when I visited Chinatown Fair Arcade.  They had a NEO GEO.  My buttons were spaced out even more than that and that button layout was really annoying.  Always stretching to reach the 3rd button.  Have a great weekend guys...

Good call  :applaud:. Hopefully you understand that people are only pointing out these things so that you will be happier with the end product. Might as well take the advice of everyone that has already messed up their own.

Magstick plus can be switch from the top by lifting and turning. They have a short throw tho, so be warned. Im thinking about getting rid of mine. I play more fighters then anything. Hitting the corners is hard sometimes.

I wouldn't even worry about a 4 way stick on this machine. I would think that it's purpose is to play games in a party environment. That's why you have the trackball and four player stations, correct?

Finally an update.  So thanks to everyone on here, I asked Dream Home Arcades to take another stab at my Street Fighter II Mame Pedestal.   The big issues we addressed were:

1.  Button Spacing:  had them move them closer...now they are truly 1.5" center to center.  As you'll see from the before and after photos, I think this will be much better and make gameplay enjoyable, with no strain.

2. Joysticks:  Moved them all closer to the buttons like Capcom had them.  And most importantly, players 3-4 are NO LONGER ANGLED.   Up on joystick is up on the screen.   Would never have known to ask for this without you guys, but it makes sense.

3. 4-Way Joystick:  Just got rid of it all together.  It was in no man's land, disrupted the art, and I have a 60-1 Ms Pac Man for most of my 4-way games anyway, plus a dedicated Donkey Kong and Fix it Felix.

4. Added black player select boxes like Capcom had "1 PLAYER, 2 PLAYERS, etc.

I kept the track ball where it's at. It's going to be black, not white.  Also kept 6 buttons for players 3-4, sorry guys, just like the look even if it's extra, do nothing buttons.

Lastly, I just want to say thank you so much for the insight and advice.   I was SO CLOSE to just having them ship the first build and living with it.  It's a hard pill to swallow, but I literally knew nothing about how to direct them with this build.  Now I know, thanks to everyone on here.   Please, share your comments and thoughts...I'll pass along more photos as they send them to me.

It will fit through your door... Just pull out a jigsaw.
Seriously I had to do that with my old cab. It ticked me off that I moved into such a small place.

Anyway that thing should fit in any apartment or home with a little finess.

I should be able to "turn it through" the door.  My doorway is like 29"...this thing looks HUGE.

You really think a few CM in button spacing is going to make / break playing street fighter?   I mean, come on now.  The amount of nit picking and whining about this and that is so annoying.  I get I asked to see what you guys thought, but man, like this thing will work just fine for 99% of gamers out there....you act like people will walk in and say, "OH NO, LOOK AT THAT BUTTON SPACING!!!"  Or "Why is the joystick angled?  I'm not playing!!!! WAAA WAAA"

I guess it's just the way some of you have commented that annoys me.  Like you act as if this is some horrendous mistake that will make this pedestal un-playable and unenjoyable.  Bunch of babies some of you are.

What happened to that guy?  >:D

For the prices they are charging him - he ought to get what he wants on it and I don't think they are gonna mind redoing the CP as long as they still get the sale - besides they'll just resell the other CP to the next person that doesn't know what to ask for !

Oh, the second I told them I wanted it re-done and the issues I had with it, they threw up my pedestal on eBay right away.  I doubt it sold, but maybe it did.  I sort of feel bad if some unsuspecting person bought this...

It wasn't the most cheerful redo for both parties involved.  Clearly they were annoyed with me.  But man, even with this final build, they never really did what I asked (send an example before anything was drilled).  They did have me final approve the art, but that's like cart before the horse, because you want to have the buttons spaced out first, then design the art around that.  I was never able to do that.

But the 1.5" spacing is good and works just fine for SF.   My original spacing was much closer to 2"...photos show that.

It's $500 for the pedestal, $300 for the pc, and $2200 for "thousands of arcade games".

You can't look at a build without factoring in more than that.  How about hours to build?  How about artwork cost?  How about artwork design?

Now on top of that, this guy is running a business, so he needs to turn a profit.

So how many hours would you estimate it would take to build this?  From getting the wood.  Cutting it.  Going to home depot to get special paint, painting it with 8 coats...on and on.

These guys don't just slap these things together....that's all I'm saying.

Well, they really didn't design the artwork.
And they didn't know about proper spacing or joystick orientation.

Gentlemen, as Kaneda received enough grief from us about the layout, I propose we lay off on the price. Yes, we're all cheap sons o' bitches DIYers, so naturally the price seems high, but it's his build. I'm curious to get his comments once he receives it. Thanks!

Well that looks one hell of a lot better. Glad to see you finally getting what the forum recommended.  I won't comment on the price. If you can afford it and you're happy then that is all that really matters.
