  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Hey guys,

Thought I'd throw this out there.  Bought a new Ms Pac Man and the monitor that was in it was real crappy.  The guy I bought from has ordered me a new monitor, one of these Vision Pros:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/370890579942

All I need is someone who knows how to install one of these to come by, do the install, set up the monitor settings and get paid.  Do you know anyone who lives near or around NYC that might want to do this?  Very simple job, shouldn't take long at all.  Reply in this thread or PM me.

With a little reading and some youtube videos you could have the current monitor adjusted and looking great in about an hour.

good day.

Um...no.  Colors are super dull and muted, like the monitor needs to be capped.  No adjustments will fix that.

Capacitors fix geometry problems, not colors.

Let me tell you where you went wrong.

whatever, anyone know anyone?

To me, it would seem that you were provided some actually useful information, with which you decided to gloss past and instead, insult the provider.

I know nothing about how to fix your monitor, but PBJ's info may actually save you some money. You now know if someone wants to cap your monitor and charge you, they may not be on the up and up.

The guy I bought from has ordered me a new monitor, one of these Vision Pros:
Um...no.  Colors are super dull and muted, like the monitor needs to be capped.  No adjustments will fix that.
Sounds to me like you have it all figured out. If you just need it recapped, and neither have the skills nor interest to learn, then just take it to a local TV repair shop. I'm sure there's someone around the vast area of NY that still repairs monitors. They can easily re-cap one for you.
Installing it isn't so hard, unless you're just lazy and can't naturally lift 40 lbs.

But wait a sec... you got a new monitor, but it came with dull colours?  I don't see any mention of that in the sale you linked...sounds to me like you bought a faulty "new" monitor.

Luckily for you, the sale you linked has this:
Quote

ALL ITEMS THAT WE SELL ARE FULLY BACKED BY A NO NONSENSE GUARANTEE. IF YOU RECEIVE AN ITEM FROM US THAT IS NOT WHAT YOU EXPECTED, THEN WE WILL GIVE YOU A FULL REFUND OR AN EXCHANGE, NO QUESTIONS ASKED.

No, the new monitor hasn't arrived yet.  The Vision Pro is the new monitor.

Why is it so hard for people to understand I'm not equipped with the tools, nor do I have the time to swap out a monitor.  I get it's not that hard of a job, and I get people have sent me useful information on how to do it myself, but that's not what I asked for.   So like, yeah, who wants to make $300?  PM me. Does that make my intentions any clearer?

You don't have a wrench, or... hands?

Swapping in a new monitor is as easy as unscrewing the mount & unplugging the cables, lifting the monitor out of the cabinet, then swapping in the new one, hook up the cables, then being proud of yourself for getting your hands dirty.

What other tools do you think you need?

Here's everything that needs to be done.  This sounds like more work than just unscrew, screw in, no?

"I need to have a G07 removed from a new Ms Pacman with 60-in-1 board and a Vision Pro installed.

I am not sure the VP frame holes will match with the Ms Pacman support bars, so it may be necessary to either drill new holes and use bolts and nuts to secure the monitor frame, or remove the VP tube and chassis and put on G07 frame.

You will also need to change the input connectors so that they match the connector for the VP. The video input wires are already spliced using wire nuts, so it should be a quick job.

Please contact me if you think this is something you can do. Please indicated what you would charge. You are welcome to keep the G07 when you are done."

This is pretty easy stuff man. Owning an arcade machine is going to be more than just playing it, there is ongoing maintenance that will occur over time. You really should learn how to do the simple stuff at least, otherwise, you might be in over your head.
What happens if it blows a fuse, or joystick starts working erratic...I'm sure you don't want to pay $300 every time you need to replace a fuse or bend a leaf-switch.

If I were in the NYC area, I would be happy to take your 300 greenbacks for this 30 minute job.  Good luck.

Wow there is a lot of newb love in this thread.

WTF is this world coming to?  Does everyone have to be an expert?

The OP is a guy that would rather pay than do the work himself, is that a crime?

We seem to have no problem calling a plumber, electrician or architect when you want a game room installed... ::)

If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

You don't need to be an expert, but IMO if you get into owning arcade cabinets, you should learn how to do the maintenance involved. Like I said as a comparison, is he going to pay someone to switch a fuse whenever it blows?

He's getting a rough ride cause of the snubbing attitude towards the DIY suggestions on a DIY forum.

As someone who works on monitors on a semi professional level I can honestly say I would rather rebuild or have the g07 rebuilt then deal with a Vision Pro, the quality on them is low, and they are prone to wierdo problems that seem impossible to pin down.

Also, there are no NEW MONITORS. CRT Vision pros went out of production something like 7 years ago. (Newest I recall ever seeing had a 2006 date on it). If the seller has one of the LCD vision pros on the way then I can tell you that Pac-Man isn't going to look good on that.

But, hey, if you were local I would gladly install whatever you wanted. I am just not local.

Also, caps can fix way more than geometry problems. Caps fix about 1 in 3 stone dead monitors I run across. Every monitor someone brings to me gets caps first before I do anything else, unless the monitor is already tagged as having been capped in the last 5 years.

Edit, saw it was a used Vision pro. Yeah, that is gonna be 10 years old and will need a cap kit itself in a couple years, except it has a lot more than the g07 does.

Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Randy from GGG lives in New York State, but he's about 300 miles away from NYC.

He may do it for the $300 + gas money, you could also buy a TT2 spinner from him whilst you're at it ?

I have to say, this community is very hostile to those looking to pay for the expertise of its members.  Let me outline the context of my offer.  I work in NYC.  I do marketing for major brands.  I love games.  I worked in the gaming industry for years (not building them, but marketing them).  I recently decided to make my one bedroom apartment into a small arcade.  I bought a Ms Pac Man 60-1 that had a sub par monitor.  Seller is awesome and just wants to make right and he's sending a Vision Pro over.  I just need someone to stick it in.    I work 12-14 hour days.

Some of you are like, "just do it yourself..."   That's easy for you to say because you know your way around a cabinet.  And I would like to get there too.  BUT...now is not the time.   Which is why I turned to this community for help.  Some of you are really nice and helpful.  But others like to mud sling the second someone doesn't want to roll up their sleeves and do it themselves.

Even snaake said he was too busy.  So see...some of us just don't have time.

I agree you're copping flak that isn't necessary.

Maybe the conversation would have stuck to the crux of your offer, if you've posted your request in the "Buy/Sell/Trade" forum.

You've instead posted your offer in the "Main" forum, meaning you've invited general discussion from all comers.  And as has been said, this is a DIY forum  (although many others, including myself, quite often buy instead of build, due to lack of time).

All the best anyway.  I hope you get yourself sorted.

I think I can help our man out here but are there going to be any pitfalls putting this monitor in a Mrs Pac cabinet?  Are the vision pros a 110AC monitor or will I need a transformer?  Is the transformer in his cab going to be good or will a specific one need to be ordered?  Any other issues? I know nintendo cabinets need a color inverter, is Mrs. Pac just standard JAMMA?
Also I know the RGB harnesses arent universal, will they interchange here or am I going to be making a custom adapter?

I have to say, this community is very hostile to those looking to pay for the expertise of its members.

 :dizzy:

Let's recap, shall we... You describe your situation and ask for help. Chopper replies appropriately that it's easy to teach yourself how to do this. You reply with "Um...no" (you'd be surprised how much adjusting a monitor will help). PBJ chimes in about how your assumption that it needs a cap kit might be wrong, and you reply with "whatever."

---fudgesicle--- you. I hate people who ask numerous others for help, yet tell them they're wrong when the "right" answers aren't found.

Stick to CL: http://newyork.craigslist.org/brx/vgm/4168479270.html

Was that so ---smurfing--- hard?

Vision Pro's do not need an isolation transformer. The VP will also come with a different video connector still attached but with the wires cut.

a 60 in 1 you say?  Why not just get a regular LCD monitor and a scan line generator from crafty mech? Its not "arcade perfect" but it is super close and you wont have to have a crummy vision pro monitor.
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Vision Pro's do not need an isolation transformer. The VP will also come with a different video connector still attached but with the wires cut.

good day.

Thats good news, The monitor is officially within my capabilities, now, are there any hangups on the video out from Mrs. Pac? or is it just standard jamma?
