400+ machines, now with some posted in the FS/FT section!
« on: October 20, 2013, 11:06:19 pm »
As some of you may know, I am currently working on some machines.

I've got a good mix of standups, cocktail cabinets, cabaret, and I think there is even a few 2-player "pyramid" cocktails (not sure of the name, but I think its made by Nintendo. There's also quite a few pinball cabinets that we'll be turning into virtuals, a bunch of racing cockpits, a machine with a helmet that you wear, a couple of jukeboxes, and just a whole slew of "other" stuff.

I'll post pics of the machines, and what we're doing to them.

Some of the pics may be pretty boring, but you never know if someone can get some use out of them for artwork placement, original control panel layout, or something similar.

Pretty much everything you see in the pics is for sale, parts or whole, so if something jumps out at you, please PM me.

So here are the 1st 2 pics.

I'll call this "room 1".

This picture is of about 1/3 of the room. In the background is the first machine we finished. We had to swap out the control panel from 2 button + trackball to 4 button + joystick. It has a Jamma board in it, with a smaller 19" (I think) monitor in it.

This is one of the many antique games. We'll be restoring these, but I'm not 100% sure if they are for sale or not.

Do you have any Rygar or R-Type cabinet(s) in your 400+ machines?

Can you give me an example?

<edit> A quick Google image search shows multiple cabinet styles. Are you looking for a specific shape/size cabinet? Or specific artwork?</edit>

I'm looking for the marquees because it seems impossible to find a scan of a Rygar marquee that was never cut and the scans for R-Type marquee are just plain bad. I would scan them and then use them in arcade marquee light boxes. I could also order a few more marquees that are in good shape, such as Black Tiger.

I would also very much appreciate photos of SNK Neo-Geo arcade machines if you have any, especially the backs and the speaker panels of the 2-slot and 4-slot models. Do you have any Neo-Geo MVS carts and their mini-marquees?

I think we could use more photos of your 400+ machines.  ;D

Yvan256, Have you looked at the MAMELayPlus site?

They have a lot of fairly high-res marquees (samples attached) and embedded MAME layouts.

I was thinking you were referring to a specific style cabinet.

Now that I know you're looking for a specific a marquee, I'll take a look for you.

I'm heading out there Saturday, so I'll snap some more pics.

Let me know if you want me to scan it. I have an A3 scanner, but I haven't had it plugged in for quite some time, so I can't promise it's operational.

A collection of 400+ machines has to have a collection of loose boards too.  Do you?

There are piles and piles of boards, scattered through-out 4 or 5 different rooms.

I'll see whats for sale and what isn't.

I didn't really want this to become a FS/FT thread. Once I get some more info on the stuff that's actually for sale, and what I have...I'll make a post in the proper forum.

For now, since I'm not selling anything, I guess its OK to keep posting your comments here.

That has to be the best uncut Rygar marquee I have ever seen. And it seems to be in very good shape, too. I would be extremely grateful for a high resolution scan!  :)

edit: nope, the top has been cut. See what I mean when I say it's impossible to find one that has not been cut? A high resolution scan would still be very useful because it's usually the bottom that has been cut.

I'd really like some CPS2 games, street fighter, puzzle fighter, any of the VS games except MvC1; so if you can see if he has those, it'd be swell. Also a NeoGeo mobo and some games. My buddy who lives in Pittsburgh said he didnt mind picking things up and shipping them to me, so one less thing for you to worry about if you do decide to sell stuffs.  :afro:

Here's a couple of quick pics of 2 puck bowlers I'm refurbishing.

The first one is a 1949 I think? It was the very first puck bowler, and started the fad.

This is a puck bowler as well. It needs a bit of wiring to be redone because the wires prevent the pucks from returning back to the front of the machine.

Not that I saw, but I did not see all the has been seen yet.

Make sense? Ha ha ha.

He's got another warehouse that I haven't even seen yet.
I didn't see one in the warehouse, but I may have missed it, or there may be one in another warehouse.

Can you provide a pic of one so I know what to look for?

I think that Nightvoice would be very happy if you could take some good photos of the Time Soldiers CPO for him to vectorize.

The list of items he is looking for is here.

Also please consider checking the unusual/uncommon cabs to see if they have decent pics in the KLOV museum or if they're on the progetto-SNAPS "most wanted" lists for CPs, Marquees, or cabinets -- there's a link for "Download Most Wanted List" on each page.

For the progetto files, it's probably easiest to D/L MAMEUIFX and the progetto-SNAPS files for CPs/marquees/cabinets onto a notebook/tablet and use the MAMEUIFX search bar at the top to find that game and see if there are already pics available.

Pretty much everything you see in the pics is for sale, parts or whole, so if something jumps out at you, please PM me.

In a Nutshell: These are a collection of possible projects. Sarver Systems is working on a number of them. In the interest of 'sharing the wealth'  :applaud:, He is offering up pics of what is in this warehouse a buddy (?) of his owns. He isn't too sure of any of us need, hence the thread. There is a bunch of stuff  here usable as reference for CPO placement, side art, et al. More importantly, if someone sees a cab they want as a MAME/restoration project, PCBS or anything (parts, monitors) else from what is here, drop him a line. Malenko's posted a reply for CPS and MVS stuff, and I'm sure SNAAKE is hot  for that CVS2 :laugh2: Thanks for the pics, Sarver Systems, I can't wait to see more;)
Wishlist: Sega Swing (really want), Sanwa/Seimitsu sticks and buttons, MVS carts, IREM PCBs

Thanks for posting the pictures! Just so you know, you can attach them to your post here and not worry about bandwidth. Also, Space Ace is not a flying game.
That KI2 looks to be in pretty great shape.
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Azure hit the nail on the head.

THere's just soooooo many games, and I have no idea what is or isn't for sale yet.

Once I have some specifics, I'll be posting in the FS/FT area (which I have already done for a few of the machines).

I'm posting these for a few reasons.

#1: To show off of course!
#2: If someone needs a good pic of a particular machine, I can help with that.
#3: Its fun just to see pics of old machines that maybe you'd forgotten about.
#4: It helps me keep myself organzied when doing the repairs as well. I'll always have a pic to go back to for info.

It occurred to me this morning that a person with access to that many cabinets could quite possibly create a site to rival jakobud.com.  If you started to measure cabs that weren't on that site it would be a great addition to the community.

What is a positional gun?

On games like Operation Wolf, Terminator 2, Revolution X the gun is basically a handle on top of a joystick.

I got $100 cash-in-hand plus shipping if you have one.  >:D

Pretty sure that Nightvoice would like pics of the Gondomania CPO as mentioned in this post.

None of the usual art sites have that or the Time Soldiers CPO IIRC.

If you don't mind, please snag some good high res photos of those CPOs for vectorizing.

Discount pinball legs?  What are we talking for a set of four?  Also, if you could take some interior shots of that Ms Pacman Cabaret, that would be awesome.  I always wondered how they were put together.

I'm hoping there is a box full of unused marquees and bezels.

Omg. Is there a Missile Command in there? Some volcano push buttons would b sweet (they have a cone shaped base with an lit small button (maybe 3/8" across) on top, if u don't know). I thought I saw a Space Ace machine in there--it should have 3 volcanos on it.

& I see a partial Battlezone in there--r the sticks (esp. the 1 with the top fire button) available?

That Revolution X machine has 2 positional guns. I'd like to purchase those, unless u have 2 Operation Wolf guns available, which I'd prefer.

Also, although I'd love all the parts I mentioned (if I can afford them), I'd rather not gut a cab that was operational as is, or going to b restored.

...It DOES feel like Christmas!

Also interested in the Capcom vs SNK 2 but that Showcase cab would cost a fortune to ship so if it is parted out due to the condition of the cab/display I'm interested in what's inside (minus the display). ;)

Is this list accurate so far?

lcmgadgets   Missile Command  ?
lcmgadgets   volcano push buttons
lcmgadgets   Battlezone stick with button on top
lcmgadgets   Revolution X guns
lcmgadgets   Operation Wolf guns ?

Not quite. I don't want a Missile Command cab (OH, that was so hard to say!). I mentioned it because it should have volcano buttons, which I DO want, if the price is right.

I would prefer 2 positional guns, preferably off an Operation Wolf, but Revolution X or Terminator or any other short rifle type positional guns, with a trigger & at least 1 push button on the side (the rocket launcher in Operation Wolf) would do.

&--I gotta ask--how about a periscope? Like off a Sea Wolf machine. Is that possible?

put me in for some atari cone / volcano buttons.  Thanks.

BTW...

Is this your main occupation or a side gig?  At any rate, make sure your camera battery is ready to go and the SD card has enough room for more pics ;)  Folks love pics!

Does the owner have a deadline to get these games working or sold?  Curious to know what the overall goal is.  Does he have a route/arcade?  A warehouse like this is like seeing a lost tribe in the Amazon forest compared to the amount of Golden Tees and Hunting games I am used to seeing.

You may want to move the list to the first post of the thread so everyone can find it easily and not have to remember which page it is on and scroll through the posts.

I suspect that this will be a very large thread.  ;D

So the story....

I was at work (I work for BNY Mellon dfoing their IT support) and I was browsing Craigslist one day because we were all talking about something (I forget what it was) and I happened across an ad.

THe ad said "Wanted: Someone to do pinball machine repair"

Wel, I used to work in several arcades, doing all of their repair work.

So I called the guy up, he lives near me, and I go pay him a visit.

We work up a deal, and I do some work for him.

One day he says to me "Ya know, I have a friend who has 400+ machines, are you interested?"

Heck yeah!

So I call up person #2, and find out he is in Pittsburgh, which is about 45mins away from me.

So I do some work for him, and he tells me the last time "I'm going to give you keys so you come and go as you please".

Heck ya!!!

Yeah, it was all on a whim.

I'd love to make it full time, but neither people are able to pay me full time rates.

I think the Pittsbugh guy could, becuase he buys more machines than he sells.

I'll be building a supergun (never knew it had a name until I started researching) to test all of these machines before they leave the shop.

He's also got a degausser, a tube rejuvinator, and various other tools that I have never seen before.

He wants me to look up how to use the tube rejuvinator, which scares me a little bit.

He's teaching me how to recap a monitor next. I already know how to do the mechanical part (desoldering, soldering, etc), I just don't know how to tell if the monitor actually needs recapped or not.

Well nerts  :lol  I'm not going to call "dibs" on anything Moneybags Maximus has his eyes on, too. My tron is going to have some special "additions" when I get around to it, so I'd rather see a whole original cab go to him  then me yanking the boards or CP. If you come across another though I will eventually need a set of controls.

Radarscope was just an addition to my big nintendo custom cab in the planning stages. Again, if Max is going to keep it complete I'm not taking the board.

Awww thanks TKW4rr10r,

Yeah I'm only looking at complete cabs to fully restore to put in my home arcade, although I think Jumpman64 has the 'JUMP'  :P on me on the RadarScope at this point. Parting out some of these older cabs would be a crime against humanity.

Yep it's a Nintendo game, it was actually a huge flop in the US and nearly buried them, but then they came out with 'Stubborn Ape' who's name was translated into an unheard of game called 'Donkey Kong' which apparently did OK for them  ;D

Damn... well I'll certainly understand if he doesn't want to sell the Radarscope.  I can certainly tell you I would NOT be parting it out!  I need to look back through the pics because I'm sure there's more stuff I'd be interested in, but that was the one that really spoke to me on first glance.

Edit -- after looking again I'd also be interested in Warp Warp if the rest of the cab is as good as the portion photo'd, & possibly Tempest if the game is complete.  Thanks!

I spoke with the owner of the games last night and told him "I've got a list of about 50 things to sell for you".

He said he'd look over the list and give me some prices.

I'll grab some detailed pics of all the parts in question, and set everything aside so we don't use it for any of the rebuilds.

That VR helmet IS interesting. What game is it tied to?

I've spoken with Keith to see what is and what isn't for sale.

I gave him the list and he said he'd look it over and get back to me.

Once he does that, I'll start posting things in the FS/FT forum.

I can tell you that the items he confirmed as available for sale are:

Some cabs,
some boards,
and a bunch of neo-geo stuff.

I'm a little confused about the process here, mostly the part about taking names for items and then saying you're going to list them in the FT/FS section later, maybe I'm just missing something obvious here (wouldn't be the first time).

That really doesn't answer my question, I'll rephrase it.

If someone has their name down in your list already for a part/cab etc, are you going to give them first refusal before posting that item for sale?

What would be fair?

I would hope that you are going to give first refusal to those that expressed interest in the order they came along, otherwise I cannot see why you would have gathered names in the first place?

Once the owner sets a price, the general practice is to go in the order of PMs/posts.

If you can't reach a mutually acceptable arrangement with the first PM'er/poster, you move on to the second. . .

Once you finish the list of PM'ers/posters start a B/S/T thread for the cab.

While we are asking niggling questions I guess I'll just throw all mine out on the table here...

- Why does Keith have such a large collection of older machines? It's an unusual collection to see from someone running a regular arcade route, typically you would only expect these sort of titles in a retro business or collector's storage.

- Again, it's unusual that someone with a collection of titles like this isn't already engaged in the web arcade community, It's a little unclear as to why he's seemingly disconnected and asking you to do all the communicating.

- This sale opportunity screams to be on KLOV but I've not seen or heard anything there about it

Like I said, these are niggling questions that have been on my mind since this thread started, the levels of apparent disconnect between the seller and the potential end buyers is a little unsettling in my mind.

I'm trying to figure this out too. I haven't really had a chance to sit down and BS with him about how he's acquired such a strange collection of machines. I have no idea if he goes to auctions, trades them with friends, or what. Heck, I don't even know his last name!

Actually, funny you should mention this. He's never hear of this site, but he IS on KLOV as far as I know. When I mentioned that I had some items I needed prices for, he asked if they were people from KLOV. I myself am not active there due to them wanting a CC#. As someone who works in IT for the bank that all banks store their money in, I can tell you how unsafe it is.

He also mentioned that the person who requested the Baby Pac-Man machine, who was willing to fly from CA to pick it up (among some other machines), he recognized the list as a WTB list from someone on KLAV. So that tells me that he's at least been on the site and looked around.

Like I said, these are niggling questions that have been on my mind since this thread started, the levels of apparent disconnect between the seller and the potential end buyers is a little unsettling in my mind.

I can tell you that he is very active on Craigslist.

KLOV... I wish I were on the forums.... once in a while, I see something I'd like to make a run at over there or a discussion I'd like to add to:\ But I also do ot like giving out my CC.

This thread has been awesome if for no other reason than I finally know the game I loved from my youth...Whirley Bird. I've longed for that since becoming re-infatuated with the arcade scene in the last year.
It sat in the back room of the cafe next to my dad's tv store. Game cost a dime to play. I never did get beyond sucking at it.
If I had room, I'd pick that up in a heartbeat. I hope it goes to a good home!

There's actually 2 Cheyenne cabs. I found a 2nd one in another room that I missed the first few times I explored.

I'll snap some pics of it for you.

Here's some better pics of 18-wheeler, for the person who requested them:

As you can see, it does need a bit of work. I'll replace the panel where the wire harness connects, and I'll either repaint the seat, or I might get it powder coated and the put some kind of seat on it.

Other than that, its in great shape. The monitor is crisp and clear, and the buttons work, and the sound is great too.

FYI, the ms pac cabaret in your first set of pictures is a conversion. that's likely a pac man or rally x cab.

Wish you were closer to me. I'd pick that bad boy up :(

Damn shame what they did to that tent...   :dizzy:

Also, I'm kinda diggin' that Front Line.  I probably wouldn't want to snag it by itself but if I do wind up with Radarscope it might be a good tag along game.   BTW, any idea when you will know more about the status of the games on The List (tm)?  :-)

I got your PM. He's been sick with pneumonia, he only answers txts every couple of days.

I'm trying to get myself down there this Saturday to work as well, but he hasnt answered me back yet on that either. He'll answer sooner or later, it just takes him a while sometimes.

Do you guys have any suggestions on how to fix the cabinet? It is completely split on the front left.

This one needed a new monitor installed. The old monitor won't power up, but the neck glows. I'll have to figure that one out one of these days.

For that baby Pac repair , maybe you can try wood glue and clamp it to bring the side back in then
Bondo and re-slot for the t molding.
Also if there is soft wood from water damage, minwax makes a product to bond it but I forget what it's called.
Home Depot carries it.
Not sure if the monitor has issue itself ( looks very red, could be simply adjustment or bad xsistor) but
both baby Pac and Granny and the gators have a vidiot board that may or may not need repair.

Yeah I saw it in one of the pics.
If I remember correctly, the issue I had with a vidiot board was in and out
of sync due to a bad pot on the board.
