Coin Acceptor n00b!
« on: October 15, 2013, 03:51:20 am »
Hey everyone! I'm new to building arcade machines, and I have purchased the parts for my machine. Currently I have with me: 4x buttons, 1x JS02 Zippy joystick, and my coin acceptor.

Everything is fine, except for the coin acceptor. I was expecting a simple mechanism that would allow you to select a coin size (which i have), and it would close a circuit (like pushing a button) to a key on my PC that I assign the "Coin inserted" button!

Instead, I have recieved a 4 pin connector as follows
pin 1 - Counter (+/-) AND DC +12V
pin 2 - Coin Signal
pin 3 - Ground
pin 4 - Counter (-/+)

Is this a simple Normal Open/ Normal Close system? or am I right?

What is Coin Signal? Someone help!!  :hissy:

(I would have read the instructions, but they are in terrible english!)

Welcome aboard, Patrik.

Sounds like a CH-924 or CH-926.

Check out this thread and this one for details and a diagram on how to connect a zener diode to protect your encoder from the 12v in the mech.

I've got a similar coin acceptor, connect pin1 and 3 to a 12v power supply, and pin 2 and 4 to your encoder, but you have to connect a voltage regulator (zener diode) to get the voltage down to 5v or you will fry the encoder. I use a usb "hacked" usb gamepad for my coin mechs. Mines got a switch to select no/nc

Hi thankyou for the replies. That diagram appears to be how my coin mech works.

Would I need the diode for an I-PAC2?

Thanks

YES, you will need to use a zener diode or the 12v from the coin acceptor will fry your IPac.   :bat

BTW a diagram almost exactly like the one Blashyrk posted is on this page on the Ultimarc (IPac manufacturer) site.

I have the coin acceptor in the video. I'm trying to set it up so that the value of a coin entered is input as a keystroke to a PC. Any ideas please?
