Core i5 3570K and rom speed
« on: November 03, 2013, 11:43:36 am »
Just a quick question... I need to upgrade my mame PC and just trying to get an idea - with this 3570 or 3570K CPU, can I reasonably expect to be playing Radiant Silvergun, cave shooters, basic 3d fighters, etc at 100% speed?  I am testing on my normal desktop which has a core i5 2500K OC'd to 3.8ghz, Mame 1.5 64 bit, and Radiant Silvergun is dipping down to 74% in some spots on the first level. Or is this just inevitable and nothing that can be done without spending for an i7?

I wait with baited breath. What are some other intense roms to test? I am aware of RS, cave shooters, radiant silvergun, SF EX, gauntlet dark legacy... and I think some of the racing games have been brought up as good test cases.

For roms, the blitz series, gauntlet legends, area 51, time crisis, cruzin usa. Most of your 3d games. For emulators, demul, nulldc, ttx/ttx2, dolphin and psx2. I just updated my video card. Been running lots of tests until I decided to rearrange my arcade :))

Cool... I will test some of those on my desktop. Let me know your findings with Radiant. If I turn on frameskipping to auto it's better but still dips a bit.

So I ran that game. Played til level 2, mine dropped to 99% for just a second. But then again, I just upgraded my video card to a gtx 770  ;D This card is wicked fast!

Brian, appreciate your report. However, I'm pretty sure mame doesn't use much or any of your video card. If it did, we wouldn't be worried about getting almost 4 ghz :).
