ELMERS WOOD GLUE FOR SEALING UP MDF

 Ok, so I read about this in another forum (they build speaker cabinets out of MDF).
Yesterday I cut a master template for a bartop build I'm working on and wanted to seal the template from moisture and any wear and tear it might encounter. I used a mixture of equal parts wood glue and water. Painted a coat on with a foam brush making sure to really get the cut edges saturated. Let it dry and then reapplied a second coat. Finished up with a quick sanding using 220 grit paper.
I know time will tell if this method is a good way to preserve MDF from wear and tear. I am very pleased with the way it looks and feels. Very "Rock Solid".

So the mixture wasn't sticky/tacky at all? 

Is there any kind of "surface" to it at all when the solution dries?

Yeap, it works well.  I've also done polyurethane seals as well.  Typically I don't make molds out of MDF too often and when I do, the basement is regulated humidity wise so it's usually okay.

Do you think 1/4 plexi would be better?

What I use is Spackle and water. Mix it together to make a constancy that is like paint and go to town. Once it dries on the wood use a 300-400 sand paper on it and you have a nice finish that you can prime.

Are you using this method instead of primer? Can you paint over this?

I am using it before primer. as a sort of mdf protectorent? I sweat a lot and it seems to keep stains from showing through the paint also when you drop a piece on it's edge there is no where near  the damage as on unprotected mdf.

Matt, is it too soon to ask if you're still satisfied with wood glue as an MDF sealer?  I'm building my first arcade control box and have zero experience with sealing MDF.
