Advice needed: Scratched LCD
« on: October 02, 2013, 04:35:29 pm »
I've got a 19" monitor for really cheap to use in my cab. Only problem is it has two scratches on it. Mind you, they are minor ones, but knowing they are there are sure to drive me nuts. Before I learn to live with it, would any of you pros have any trick to hide or fix this? I already tried the eraser trick, but since my monitor has a matte surface, there is no layer to remove... There is also the vaseline method, but this is far from permanent.

Any of you guys know any trick to this?

I had a couple of good 19 inch 4:3 LCD monitors with scratches.   I used a new white pencil eraser.  They are medium sized and retangular in shape.  I worked on the scratches with patience and they soon became not noticeable.  I cleaned the screen and could not see where the scratches had been under clear plexi.

Vaseline - I had quite a deep one on a monitor of mine and it works really well. Just rub it in and that's it.

It's not a permanent fix, but it does a pretty good job.

So long as you don't go so hard as to burn through the polarizer, you could use Novus #2 to polish the area in question, and cleanup with Novus #1.

Then you'll have a shinny spot on your matte screen.  :)
