UK - Smart Plug - Home Bargins
« on: August 17, 2013, 08:49:30 am »
Just seen this, but because its a single plug, not sure how I could make it work.

Anyway, not a bad price for us builders.

I think this one may be more for TV's  I have an 8 way behind my TV which powers down everything when I turn the TV off. It has an Infrared receiver and you sync it to the power on/off function of your TV Remote.  I bet this one is similar. It would be no good for a Mame build but could work with a 4 way extension for virtual pinball.  I have a Maison De Bargains nearby I may pop one out to check.

ASDA has the infra red smart plugs for £5 for 4 receivers.

I used them for awhile, but they have a tendency to marry each other so when you select plug one, plug four switches on or off  :o
and that could ruin your day/night/whatever.

Actually buying those 12v 24 amp batteries that go in are more expensive.   ;D

Found the spec sheet here: https://energenie4u.co.uk/res/pdfs/Standby-Saver-1%20UM.pdf

£9.99 direct from them too...

"This energy saving device is endorsed by the Energy Saving Trust. It will
monitor the power consumption of attached equipment and switch the
socket off automatically if no power draw or a power draw at a low standby
level is detected.

Typically it will be used for Televisions and associated equipment such as
DVD players, games consoles, VCRs and set top boxes"

Didn't EON have the desktop pc adapters that switched off all the wall worts when the PCM powered down?

I think they are still giving them away, or maybe something similar from your utility company.

Good point ... I'll get in touch and say that I'm desperate to save the planet - that should do it...
