Battle Gear 2 Force Feedback questions
« on: July 05, 2013, 03:35:31 pm »
Hello all,

I have a Battle Gear 2 dual sitdown game that I bought probably over a year now.

http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=7045

One side does not have any force feedback at all.  I can't seem to find much documentation on this particular game so I'm not sure how the force feedback is achieved.  My guess is a feedback motor attached to the steering wheel via a belt.  before I start looking into the feedback board, I'd like to see (1) if it is in actuality using a belt, and (2) if it is broken.  I think this would be the easiest fix of all the possibilities for no force feedback.

First problem I ran into is, I don't know how to take the steering assembly of the cabinet apart to get to where this supposed belt is.  I have the steering assembly out of the cabinet and can see the feedback motor, but the shaft area is enclosed and I think the only way to be able to separate that enclosure would be to remove a large piece of metal on the other side of the assembly, where the steering wheel connected to.  I know this doesn't make a lot of sense...I should just take a picture of it but i am not at home right now.

Sorry for the rambling...so really my question is, is anyone familiar with Battle Gear 2 and can verify if the force feedback uses a belt?  And does anyone know how to get to the belt?

Thank you!

Hello,

I finally got around to snapping some pictures so hopefully my gibberish will make some sense with the aid of these pictures:

This is what I'm not sure how to remove.  This is what is behind the steering wheel after it has been removed.

this is what is on the other side of the "dash board".  here you can see the gear connected to the shaft of the steering wheel, the steering pot, a second set of gears to achieve a gear ratio, I suppose, and the feedback motor.  You can see it better in the second picture, a space between the gears and the front of the dash, (where the steering wheel would be), that is enclosed by a metal box.  That box is held down by 8 or 10 nuts.  I can remove those but without moving that front piece, I can't access where I believe the connection between the feedback motor and steering wheel would be.

Any help is greatly appreciated.  Any suggestions on if I should start a new post in the driving and racing section?  Should I make a new post in that section and link to this one or is there a way to move it entirely?

Thanks again.
