Like a kid on Christmas day
« on: July 03, 2013, 06:43:25 pm »
I'm in the process of wiring up my cp, having got as far as grounding all the connections and wiring up Player 1 joystick and buttons I couldn't resist the urge to try it out.

Wow, just, wow. It's been a long long time since I've played a genuine arcade game using genuine arcade controls and I absolutely loved it :))
Felt like a kid again lol.

Can't wait to get my cab finished now.

Ooohhhh. First mistake. Making it playable before it's finished  ;D

Now you'll never finish it up!

Congrats on getting it going!   :applaud:

Once you are hooked, you are hooked.  That is how I managed to start collecting pinball machines.

Please don't remind me of pinball machines. A customer I did the 4-Player build for had a bunch of really really nice ones and I almost got hooked into starting a collection. Unfortunately a much more expensive addiction hobby than MAME\Arcade machines.

It all started with the wife saying, "Go ahead and buy it.  You've always wanted one."

Seriously?  She said that?  Dude, is she single?  Got a phone number?  ...just kidding, and/or jealous

Seriously?

Seriously.  My wife is pretty cool about my assorted hobbies.  Her only complaint is the noise but I am slowly getting the game room sound proofing done.

must be nice.  Tho to be honest, my wife has only one complaint as well: me and anything I may be interested in :)

as to the OP, drventure nailed it- you broke the rule.  The first thing I did was a crude but workable CP i stuck on a desk in front of a computer.  Mame cab was significantly delayed.

Mine hates video games, but will watch me play resident evil.  She found my cab at an auction, won it for $30.  Turned out to be Midway's Strike Force in an Angle generic cab.
I need to add 3 buttons per player the the CP, but it works, so I play it and the buttons never get added.
Never met a game I won't keep.

It works both ways.  She has her hobbies which are dog agility and gardening.  I make her agility equipment for her and one of our major projects this year was a pergola so she is a happy camper.  Even when building your own equipment, agility can get expensive.

The thing about buying the pinball machine is that it isn't mostly just money down the drain (like if you bought a new Jet Ski or something), it is just parking the money in pinball form for a while. As long as you pay a fair price for your pin and maintain it then it isn't going to lose any value and is even likely to go up (unless you bought a brand new pin, in which case you are going to take a little bit of a bath when you resell it 5 years later).
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Agreed.  I don't own anything newer and my machines vary from 71 through about 95.  I actually enjoy them a great deal.

I remember that feeling. Its a fantastic sensation. When I first powered my CP, it had been about 20 years since I had last spend any length of time with a proper joystick and buttons. Amazing.

Incidentally, we live in a small house. I am building a bartop at the moment. My wife understanderbly said she doesnt want me to build a full size cab until we have more space... Our house in now on the market !
Born in the early seventies
Grew up in the arcades in the 80's
