IIRC it's an old format that can't auto populate from our current incarnation, on top of that the mods can't get rid of it because it's integral. Someone with rights could go change it to a simple "please see x for our current news and site" but that's pretty low on the list of priorities. Probably ahead of the wiki tho lol.
