So I was at a diner in Tarrytown, NY and I found, behind it, a couple of old touch machines being tossed. I asked if I could take them and got the go-ahead. I only had room for one in my car so I took this one since it looked slightly less beat up.



I plugged it in and powered it on. I hear some activity but no image on the monitor. I have to break into the machine - any suggestions on that? (Drill the locks out? Bolt cutter for the padlock?

I'm still deciding what to do with this though. I would like to have one of those touch machines but I wouldn't mind converting it to play JAMMA or Mame (especially if the monitor is shot; not spending money on a new one.)

Obviously let me know if I shouldn't be modifying this for any reason I'm not aware of.

   Awsome find...A 4" dimond cutter will work well on that hasp, and yes then drill out the lock barrels (Unless you can find a key in your spares can)
If that bill acceptor still works and its been taking bills, Oh my, they can hold a lot of them and may be full, If so you just got paid to bring that thing home!!...I would think it would look a bit odd with a control panel fitted on there so Jennifer is of the opinion to fix it for what it was. A new monitor would be a small investment in that direction.

I'd definitely go the jukebox route.  Get the touchscreen working, slap a couple of big speakers on the sides and "Bob's your Uncle" (whatever that means...)

Was going to but it's an hour's drive (with tolls) to grab in and get it back with no where really to put it and I'm moving next month so I had to make do with this one.

Why does that sound familiar.    Don't know if I want to do the jukebox so much (nobody likes my music tastes) but it's a thought. I guess first thing I should do is see what needs to be done and go from there...

Actually what I ended up doing is borring all my friend's cd's and ripping them to the computer that'll be inside. A little something for everybody.

Heh. I could throw some light guns on there too. But nah, if I had to add some controls I'd probably keep it simple (like 2 sticks, 4 buttons each) and possible see if I could build something else that will fit in that area so I don't start putting holes in the plastic.

But I hate this "getting home late" BS. I want to work on that already.

Touchmaster 8000 is a multi-game with a good variety of fun and challenging games. It works very good in MAME.

Me too.  I'm actually working on a full-screen jukebox style UI for Spotify.  Don't need to rip anything (though I can if i want) and music is constantly added for me.  You add songs to the queue and when the queue is played out, random stuff from a huge playlist I have set up starts playing.

I am not sure if I want to add searching; I think part of the magic of a jukebox is reading through the catalog, so I have a significantly sized list of pre-selected albums to choose from. 

I haven't shown anyone yet, and I'm curious about the feedback I'll get once I do.

I agree with this sentiment wholeheartedly. I hope to complete my own jukebox project this summer.

I used a small p3 system and loaded it with WinXP and DWJukebox. Slapped that puppy into a Merit Megatouch upright cab and it made a great touchscreen jukebox.

Can you put a MK809 in there and use the touch screen. 

Is it USB or proprietary, just in case I find one in my travels.

People I've been speaking to were keen on me keeping this a touch-screen game. Peer pressure, apparently, works well on me.

Cracked open the puppy last weekend. I drilled out the back lock and there were keys for the coin door inside. It was just a matter of removing the security bracket from the inside and I had full access. There were $10 in quarters in there; my nephew got the bulk of that for helping me.

At any rate, it seems like the power supply for the PC was shot so I threw in a spare one I had lying around. When I boot it up, it gives off two beeps and then, sometime later, a solitary beep. No picture on the monitor, though I hear it powered up (didn't get a chance to really examine the monitor too in-depth.)

Most of the Touchmasters (2000,3000,400,7000,8000) work very well in MAME.
I stick to Touchmaster 8000 and people love to play it.

It is most likely a video card issue. Either your card got unseated somehow or it fried. I had the same thing happen to me with an Arcade VGA a few months ago. It turned out to be bad. Most of the time you will get nothing at all if it is the Power Supply. Two short beeps is a Post error. The delayed beep probably means video failure. Easy way to know for sure is to try the card in another PC. Or it is simply a plug that you forgot to connect when reconnecting. the power supply, such as the video card or CPU.

Thanks for the advice all.  For some reason I wasn't sure if the beep codes would be the same. Good to know I can go the emulation route if necessary. Does the touchscreen need any special interface to work with MAME? Never even entertained the notion of emulation the Touchmaster.

I'm hoping to have some more time to work on it this weekend.

You have to set it up as a lightgun, but that's it.
