New MAME builder, question.
« on: May 02, 2013, 09:58:56 pm »
Hello, All

I'm starting on my wife's Christmas present, and I need a little help.  She loves Ms. Pacman, so I'm building her her own arcade with vintage games from the 80's.  I've decided to use MaLa for the front end, so I need a little help on the setup.  I'm using the MaLa BYOACWiki to do the setup.  It lists the option, "Download controls.ini (adds game control information)".  The link is denied, so I did a Google search for "controls.ini". The latest version I found is version 0.141.1 on a webpage.  Is this the latest version?  I'm using version 0.148 for i868 of MAME.

Second, when first starting MaLa, it tried to create a MAME.ini file, but creation failed.  Any suggestions why?

Third question is, how hard is it to get MAME running on MaLa and WindowsXP to boot up straight to Ms. Pacman?

Thanks,
Mark

I think I'm using a controls.ini that's even older than that...I'd say that'll be fine.  To my knowledge it's not actively being maintained at this point tho it might be picked up again by now.

As for setting up MALA, it is pretty easy.  There are a lot of menus and options so take it a step at a time and once you get to a sticking point post up your question and we can help walk you through it.  MALA has an option to launch a specific ROM on startup and you can either shell XP or just drop the mala.exe into your startup folder in your windows program list and that will get you into whatever game you want no buttons pressed.

And another thing I can't understand.  I have 14 ROMS in the MAME ROM folder and they run fine in MAME.  When MaLa first ran it said it was loading the game list and spent about 20 minutes collecting data.  Now the game list shows 28,403 games in the game list.  I don't understand this.  How do I have only the 14 games show up in the games list?

Don't go this route.

Thanks for the directions, BadMouth.  But, why shouldn't I go this route? She gets her games, and I just happen to load a few that I like also.  After all, I have to fill out that 70 Meg hard drive somehow.   ;D
