TV picture issues
« on: April 23, 2013, 12:38:31 pm »
Figured I would cross-post this in the main forum in the hopes of getting more of a response.

I have an RCA television that is giving me issues, wondering what needs to be done to fix it.  Let me start from the beginning.

I installed it in my cab a few months ago and got to firing it up about a month ago, only to find that it didn't want to power on.  I had it plugged into the smart strip I installed in my cab so that it would turn on when the PC powered on.  Everything else that was supposed to turn on did, except the television.

So then I plugged it into one of the "always on" ports on the smart strip, left it to sit there in the "off" position directly hooked to power for about 25-30 minutes, then came back to it, powered it on separately from the rest of the cab, and once the power light came on, powered the PC on.  Bingo, got a nice picture up on the screen.

This worked fine for weeks, I just left the TV always-on in the hot plug of the smart strip, and all other cab components (marquee light, speaker system) would switch on via the PC switching on.

The other day, I power the cab on (remember, the TV has been on for about a month at this point), and start to play.  Well, about 40 minutes in, I notice the screen start to get slightly darker, and stay that way for about 3 seconds, before switching off completely.  It was like a gradual loss of picture over the course of about 5 seconds.  I go around to the back of the cab to see what the power light is doing on the TV and it's blinking on-off, on-off, on-off, ad infinitum.  I press the power button on the TV, let it sit again in the off position plugged into a hot socket on the smart strip, and come back to it about 10 minutes later.  Power it on, it comes on without any issue, and works for about 5 minutes, then fades and reverts back to the off-on routine it was doing before.

What do I need to do/buy to get this display fixed?  I called my local TV repair shop and not only did they want 35$ to just look at it, but I had to bring it to them (not exactly easy when it's decased and mounted in a cab), and he said it would be about 60-150$ to repair depending on the issue.  This TV was free, and i'm not averse to hitting the garage sales for another 27" television as long as the mounting clips are in the same position as the one i've got currently.

What does it sound like needs replacing on the television based on what I described happening?

FYI, the model of this television is F26051EM.  I tried looking online but couldn't find any info about repairing an issue like this.

Ask this question in the Monitor/Video forum.  The Main forum doesn't really attract the monitor guys.  There's a lot of talent in there that you completely ignored because you didn't post in the correct forum.
