"Kick" Rom not working in Mame plus

I am not sure how I can get "Kick" rom working. I downloaded the rom into the rom folder and also downloaded the missing file which is  82s123.12d from rom midssio.zip. I placed the midssio.zip file in the rom file and tried placing in the main mame folder.  anything else I can try? thanks

You never answered my question about whether the version of your roms matches the version of MAMEUI you are using.

Did you put it in the rom file as you say or rom folder?
midssio.zip should go in your rom folder, not in the rom file.

Again, it's not going to work if your roms are version .127 and your MAME UI is version .148 because changes were made at version .146

yes I did put it the rom folder I meant. Not sure what version of mameplus or rom.. I will check when i get home. How can i check what version of rom it is?

There's not an easy way to check, but if it didn't have the 82s123.12d sound prom in it, it's 146 or newer.
If it did, it's older.  The site you got it from should have it listed somewhere.

IIRC, MAMEPLus displays the version number at the top.  If not, clicking "about" under the Help tab might tell you.

Thank you for all your help. Like i said , I  will check later this evening to see what version of Mameplus , I will post the answer and we will go from there.

I actually have two versions of mame , mame 0.90u1 and mame plus 0.138u1. kick rom doesn't work in either versions with the midssio.zip into the roms folder. So not sure where to go next. any help would be appreciated , thanks

Well, your rom is newer than version .146 when the changes were made and your versions of MAME are older than that.

Try getting the kick rom from different sites.  Some of them don't update very often.
You'll probably come accross the old version.
The last time a noob posted a link to one (in violation of the rules), it had v.127 roms.

Or you could use a newer version of MAME, but might run into issues with other games if your current roms are meant for the old builds.
