Spy Hunter and Mame 0.146??
« on: July 04, 2012, 06:01:41 pm »
Has spy hunter been removed form Mame, as im trying to play it in mame 0.146 and when i load it through DOS i get the following message....

82s123.12d NOT FOUND
ERROR required files are missing, the game cannot run.

I have tried both spyhunt and spyhuntp version of the roms and get the same message, the rom files where download for the full 0.146 rom set on .............. so im sure there all up to date and correct??

I'm running the same ROM set and both work for me!

Check you have dotron.zip The rom 82s123.12d is stored in that ROM file.

Works here.

WIP:
- 0.145u7: Added 'Midway SSIO Sound Board' and 'Midway Chip Squeak Deluxe Sound Board' sound. Moved Sound Board prom 82s123.12d to midssio device set.

So if the rom is older than that, it wouldn't work, but you say you have .146

Have you used Romlister or some other program to sort your roms?
A dependent file located in a different rom, as holldennut pointed out.

Ok have just downloaded Dotron.zip for mame build 0.144 and that zip file DOES include the 82s123.12d, but the 0.146 rom does not!. Every strange, any ideas why this is?

Have just tried adding the old Dotron zip file to my MAME rom folder (which has the 82s123.12d file in the zip file) and Spy Hunter still does not work

check midssio.zip

Bingo!!!, that worked, cheers. Strange that they would move the soundboard to its own rom file, may throw a load of people who just download individual games, and if one of them used this soundboard rom then they might have the same problems i have.

The only reason i ran into this problem was because i split my roms into 2 rom folders, vertical and horizontal and obviously the Romlister program i used to split the roms didnt move the midssio.zip into in the vertical rom folder with the rest of the vertical games. Hopefully this will be fixed in an update to Romlister so it writes that rom file to each rom folder to stop this from happening in the future for any unsuspecting users

Just ran into this issue on a cocktail cabinet I am building.  I wasn't able to get Kick to work.  I knew 0147 had issues with Midway games, but heard that they had been corrected in 0147u1.  Well my other Midway games, Dig Dug, Galaga, Pacman, etc. all started working but Kick did not.  Ran MAME from a command prompt and found file was missing, 82s123.12d, did a search and found this post.  I only have the ROM files I need on my cabs, saves on room.  Just copied the midisso.zip file over from my ROM folder and now it is working.

This is partially a case of whether or not you have a split or merged romset, correct?  If you have a split romset then each zip file for the rom of a particular game *should* have all the files needed for that specific game.

If you have merged romsets then they share common files between them to save space, but then you may run into issues like the one you had.

I thought split or merged only pertained to parent/clone and you still needed the bios files?

I am still having trouble with the Kick rom. I have mameplus.  I actually downloaded the  midisso.zip. file and played it in the rom folder and also tried the general mame folder and still not working, any help, Thanks

Are you sure the version of the roms you are using match the version of MAMEPlus you are using?
They probably rearranged and renamed stuff when they moved the sound rom, so roms from before that change won't work on MAME builds from after the change.  (and vice versa)

Someone posted recently wanting to know how to enable all kinds of features on the current MAME build,
but it turned out the rom site that they were getting their stuff from was hosting an older MAME build and old roms.

I thought split made each zip all inclusive? Meaning it containted everything it needed to run, hence the reason split sets "waste" space (lots of copies of the same files)

Anyway, this goes back to the value of learning to use CLMAMEPRO.  If you would have used it with your specific MAME file (so it matches the roms up) you would have known exactly what you were missing / what MAME was looking for.
