Ipac2 and keyboard conflict
« on: March 09, 2013, 10:21:13 pm »
Currently I have my arcade controls connected to an ipac2 encoder and this running to my pc via USB.I have my keyboard connected through a separate USB into my pc. When using my arcade controls it seems to cause a conflict with the keyboard controls and keyboard/control functions seem to go all pear shaped from there. Any suggestions on how to solve this?

Thanks for your reply but how will changing my keyboard usb connector to a ps2 connector solve this?
Excuse my ignorance.
Is this a common problem?

I will assume that the machine in question does not have a PS2 port. If it does then you could just use a ps2 keyboard.    The issue you are experiencing should not occur unless it thinks that there is a key like Ctrl, or Alt or something like that held down.  Can you be more descriptive of what is happening.  Have you opened up notepad and seen if anything is being entered in there when no buttons are being pressed.  What appears in notepad if you type "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog".

Alright just went out and bought a ps2 to USB adaptor hooked it up to the keyboard and PC and for some reason the ps2 port on the motherboard does not recognise that anything has been connected bugger!!

When I have my keyboard and arcade controls running through USB the keyboard seems to function fine in notepad all the keys perform their functions but as soon as I move the joystick or press an arcade button then a continuous flow of numbers 52525252525252.... numbers appear until  I press another button and it stops. But then the keyboard and mouse start to act up and the mouse buttons work in reverse and the keyboard controls cease to work or start performing weird fuctions?
Can anyone help me with this?

OK lets start this at the beginning

1) Have you checked your buttons/sticks are not configured for normally closed rather then normally open
2) What happens when you only have the joystick connected, does notepad behave the same when you waggle the sticks around. You should get 1 character for each button/joystick switch press. if it starts and doesnt stop until another button is pressed I would go back to 1)

Thanks DrNick
All my switches were configured to normally closed. The NC and NO both looked very similar the only way to tell the difference is by the open circuit symbol on the side of the switch thanks a lot mate!
One other question is now that I've got the controls sorted out trying to configure the joystick controls for hyper spin in hyper hq isn't going well it won't recognize my joystick inputs or button inputs at all as notepad does.Any suggestions?

For hyperspin you need to set the keys same as they are set on the ipac. I don't think that you would use the joystick option as you are using an IPAC which is seen as a keyboard interface.  (I on the other hand use Joystick as I have a Xin-Mo seen as a game controller) So if you work out what is up,down.left, right etc in notepad you can then set the keyboard in HS the same.

Hope this helps, if not holla out again and I will look into it some more.

Thanks again Dr Nick controls are running really well now.
All the contols are configured and run in hypespin accordingly.
I just have one more bug left with my controls and that is exiting a game once it is up and running.Do I have too configure the exit button in mame to be the same as my exit arcade button?
Thanks again! :)

You don't have to set them the same but it will make life easier for you.   You could even set mame to a 2 button press.  For example I hold down Player 1 start and Player 1 credit to exit.

OK I have a specific button set to escape and this works when exiting a game run only by mame and using the control panel in hyperspin frontend.
When trying to escape a game run through hyperspin the escape button does not work and the only way to escape is to end the task any ideas on how to solve this?

Have you got Hyperlaunch turned on or off?  It should be Off.  Try that just in case Hyperlaunch is expecting a different quit key to what Mame/Hyperspin are expecting.  It should be an option for the mame wheel in HyperHq if I remember correctly.

No luck with disabling hyperlaunch in hyperhq. It allowed me too select my game but wouldnt accept the controls  to start the rom.
The only problem Im having is that for some reason the escape button will not function during a game but works fine in hyperspin and mame. ???

I would post the question over at the HS forums, in my experience it has always been an incorrectly configured esc button or hyperlaunch.
