Magstick Plus possible fault/problem?
« on: March 07, 2013, 01:53:26 pm »
I am in the process of replacing my zippy sticks with a pair of Magstick Plus. One of these sticks is fine but the other if you rotate the handle makes a kind of grinding noise, It also seems to be off centre when calibrating. I know they use magnets to centre and it does sound like broken magnet rubbing.  Is there anything I can do to check if something is broken or should I just contact Andy?

Thanks.

Un do the 4 screws holding the top metal plate on (nothing else need to be taken apart) and as you slide the shaft out (gigiddy) rotate it so the whole unit will slip through the restrictor. Inspect round magnet in base and white round joy plate for debris.

good day.

Thanks, I thought that may be the case but wanted to make sure that it was actually user serviceable.  I will let you know the results I find.

Well I took it all apart and the magnet looks like it had been broken and was stuck back together :badmood:  So this means that the top of the magnet is not at all smooth. I cleared out all the little bits of magnet and what looked like rust, it's stopped making that annoying grinding noise and is returning to centre a lot happier.  I will see how it goes for a bit and if it goes back to being an issue I will contact Andy.

Don't hesitate to reach out to Andy asap.  I am pretty certain he will replace it outright or at the very least send you a replacement magnet.

Good point, didn't think about just being able to replace the Magnet  :applaud: I have emailed Andy accordingly.
