You probably need to edit the mame config manually. Mala hasn't been updated to reflect some of the newer mame config options.

good day.

don't use them in mame ( they look horrible ), just use a slg with vga and run at 800/600.

my opinion ;)

seriously though , correct me if i`m wrong (no doubt they will if i am :) ), mala is just a front end, it just starts the program/emulator with configured settings whether through mala or its own files, my advice would be to get your emulator (mame) to run as you want then get mala to start it, if making it look like an old arcade machine is a MAJOR priority buy an old crt, I read a post earlier where people were arguing over it not looking authentic enough, and it wasnt the mala forum, check out the main section and you`ll probably find the answer you`re looking for, mala wont make it look like i`m guessing you want it to. try posting the question again in the other forums (not saying to move it maybe someone here knows the answer)

As I said in my previous post. Mala hasn't been update to some of the newer mame config options. I use .105 on 2 machines and mala to mame options work fine. On a machine running .131 there's a couple mame configs I need to edit manualy via mame.config file.

good day.

I use a T-SLG (Toodles Scanline Generator). Honestly it's hardware, not software so one of the best things about this is it refeclts on anything shown on screen. So MaLa and any emulator I run on the system will have a consistant look.

Very happy with these, and they give a great effect. Well worth the money if you want a retro look on an LCD.

As Almighty said run at a lower resolution, and be sure to adjust the RGB knobs to really get a good effect. I will confess that out of the box I used these on two machines, a 60 in 1 Jamma board and my MAME system.

The 60 in 1 looked great out of the box, no adjustments needed.
The MAME syustem needed some adjustments to get it to look good, but now it does. Really pronounced effect.

I used the T-SLG by Toodles.
It's available @ Gold Like Controls.
Google it and you'll find it.
I think its cheaper than then SLG3000, and it ships from the USA.

All in all I'd say its a good product, worth the money and will do what you want FOR EVERYTHING YOU DISPLAY ! - Can't go wrong !

The newer Mame versions support HLSL shader filters. They can be used to create the look of an old CRT on a modern full-HD LCD TV. The result looks pretty good. I use it myself. here is a link where you can see how to it up... http://www.aep-emu.de/PNphpBB2-file-viewtopic-t-18991.html I just stumbled across HLSL sharders recently myself, never heared about them before...

I ried to caputre it in a video. take a look at the video in this thread http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,130958.0.html
Ignore the first part of the video, the HLSL filters are in the gameplay part at the end of the video. And it looks better in real life, due to loss of video compression.

So before you buy extra hardware, it is at least worth a try...

On the other hand, in a real cab I would recommend to use a real CRT with Soft15kHz drivers and CabMAME to get close to the real thing...
