Layout switch for emulators
« on: February 16, 2013, 11:19:03 am »
I have a customer wanting some additional info on layout switching.
On the MaLa site it posts a link with additional info, but the link is dead.
Same goes for the MaLa wiki.

Any additional info would be great.
I know you enable the option in the GUI tab under MaLa settings.
I know you also have to name the layout to match the emulator, what I don't recall is (1) do you name it the same as  the emulators install folder, (2) or whatever  you name the emulator in MaLa.

For example I use FCEultra for NES, but in MaLa when I'm setting up the emulator I name it as Nintendo. So would I name my layout Nintendo.mll ?

Thanks

For example I use FCEultra for NES, but in MaLa when I'm setting up the emulator I name it as Nintendo. So would I name my layout Nintendo.mll ?

It needs to be the same name as it shows in the list on the "Other Emu Config" tab.
So if it's Nintendo in that list, it needs to be Nintendo.mll

I don't remember if it's necessary, but the folder containing my background image also has the same name.

You can also have it switch based on gamelist name, in which case the layout is named the emulator name, then an underscore, then the gamelist name.
i.e. mame_shmups.mll

Another question :

I often create custom load screens with my MaLa layouts.
I'd love to have multiple load screens for multiple layouts.
Messing around with MaLa I noticed this option :

"Use pictures from layout if set in layout"

I'm guessing this means I can possibly use multiple pictures per emulator. But when I looked for info on this, such as what I would name the file I can't find any info. Any info on this ? Any help ?

Sounds like that's what it does.  I've never used it.

Just try it!

Great, I will look into this tonight.
I'd like to have load screens specific to emulator for a customer.

Thanks all

I had  this working, now I get an image that says "GET READY TO PLAY."
I went  back into all my MLL files and did another edit, selected the loading image again, made sure to disable text, but the issue still exists.
Any thoughts ?
