Oh Grif, shamelessly self promoting yourself on the voting page!  What a dirty little trick!  Well, I would never stoop so low.  But I do actually have a better picture of my machine I would like to post here, just so everyone has the best possible picture to use when considering who to vote for ...

So I spent some time looking through all the entries, and I made my pick.  It may not be the flashiest machine out there, but SwitchCade by TopJimmyCooks is truly innovative (The geared, slide-apart control panel is unique as far as I know.)  What you need to consider is the versatility-  A lot of those really flashy machines have more of a fixed control panel.  SwitchCade isn't the only swappable panel machine out there, but it is among the very best at accurately representing the controls of the largest number of games.  I have physically played on SwitchCade, and can attest to its solid feel and immersive, "real" experience.  The auto-rotate monitor is pretty pimptastic, if not quite as unique.

Another thing is that SwitchCade was made by a first-time, low budget builder that got a lot of mileage out of DIY techniques and materials.  This should be considered when the machine sits next to ones with beautiful, but farmed-out graphics.

OK, OK- so this is obviously a plug, or at least a plea.  Suffice it to say that my last name is also "Cooks."  However, I still employ everyone that votes to go by more than appearance, which does matter, but to also consider the deeper aspects and technical achievements, and unparalleled versatility that SwitchCade offers.  Thanks!

I'd buy that argument if the switchcade was nominated in the hardware section....  But my vote went to revolution purely for aesthetics.   ;)

My vote went to TheShaner's Alien abduction. I've had a chance to sit down and actually play on it, and Not only is it totally balls out super mega awesome, but the dude who made it is pretty much the coolest guy on the planet.  From what I read in the thread he was drunk most of the time he was making it, planned virtually 0%, repeatedly messed up portions of it, and strictly adhered to a limitless budget.  :burgerking:

My bro's lobbying aside, I already voted on day 1 for the Revolution.  Not so much because of the art although it's quite well done.  Def not because of that video where 20 seconds of the cab are wiped in over a vid someone else animated I think?  granted Griff said WIP on that.  Just breaking your stones, man.

The total package - rotation functionality, dual monitor, a form factor that hasn't been done before, the pinball angle, and everything.  It's just the best stand up this year.  I don't like the visible subwoofer  and don't care about the tablet, but it's a minor niggle.  the halftone dots when you see the bezel of the lower monitor and tied in with the sideart was genius.   If HS ever learns to handle a vertical layout it'll be over the top, but I don't feel that holds anything back here as presented.

Regardless of what happens, congratulations to Griff on an awesome standup.  Good move also to everybody for managing to finish in 2012 so you're not up against Ond (in 2014).   8)

All kidding aside, Griff's cab is the clear winner this year in my book. All of the entries are great in their own respect, but Revolution really took quality and innovation to a new level. It's not green, but its damn cool.

With that said. Vote for my cab.

My vote goes towards the Alien cab, Great design, great woodworking skills, great color, all around perfect size and proportion.

If I could build one with unlimited funds thats the one I would build.

Damnit, I've been meaning to make a flyer for mine as well, now you've gone and made it something pressing that I will have to do sooner rather than later.

I'm just now noticing something that I have only seen on one other cabinet, the 7 button arrangement as well as left and right mouse buttons around the trackball.  Whatever inspired you to take that unorthodox layout approach?

Also, what font is that you are using in your logo?

It's not really a flyer, just a SPLOSION of things.

7 Buttons are so I can configure a thumb button for certain games where it feels right. Two mouse buttons are more of a testament to the fact that you are always going to be dicking around with a cab based on Windows so you may as well be able to do it properly without having to plug in a mouse.

As for the font, I can't think of any non-devious reason you would need to know that  :dunno

Hey thanks for the vote Jimmy, I really appreciate it and all the help you offered up during the build. I've said it before but I'll say it again, this cab is the result of hour and hours of reading and talking to great builders like yourself and learning from their advice and experience, so it really is a result of the community's combined skills.

As for 2014, I'm just getting warmed up honey  :afro:

Cool cabinets. I voted for the one I think I would want to play the most.
While the aesthetics and features are super nice on these LCD cabs I  prefer the arcade CRT.
Then I need at least 6 buttons for Capcom fighters.
4 players for the tie-breaker.
Nephasth's Two-Headed Beast it is.

+1 on the CRT preference, I agree totally.  It is a shame to put an LCD in a cabinet that is playing classic games IMO.

Had to vote for the cab with the cleanest design, manageable size, and truly custom artwork that brought the theme altogether without looking kitchy or obnoxious.
Echo Base.  It's the only one here I can see myself playing regularly, and looks to be a very approachable cabinet. Great job Doc!  :applaud:

Second runner up for me is Neph's Two-headed Beast, because I love renovation projects, and he pulled it off tastefully.

I didn't vote for Echo because it almost looks too small to be in this category...  Also with the way the marquee sticks out, would a 6' tall poerson be able to see the top of the screen without having to duck down?

It's a wider version of a Moon Patrol body. I'm 6'2" and I have no issues with it. Of course Echo Base doesn't have all the flashy bells & whistles of the ultra modern designs it's up against, but if you read the first post of the project thread you'll see that was sort of the point.

To help the voters gain a better understanding of the great features of ECHO BASE I made a short video...

Next year we're having a best video category. Dr Chek just won preemptively.
