« on: November 26, 2012, 06:48:57 am »
Hi Guys,

I am about 80% cpmplete with buiding my own 1/2 sized cab/bartop.
I am left with a few things to do like

fit the plexi glass - Its a few mm too wide so i need to file the sides down a bit.

illuminate the player 1+2 and coin add buttons. - How do i power these from a PC PSU molex connecter?
as in do i connect the red and black from teh molex to the 2 connecters of the bulbs?

question for using a arcade button to power on the pc.
do i just connect the ground and normally open connecters to the power switch's 2 pins on the motherboard ?

Just a thought but Is there a way to display the hi score info on a seperate screen?
im thinking have a psp screen display the hi scores in the marquee area

Im using mame 147u2 and MaLa

Any help or nfo of this would be gratefully appreciated guys

Welcome aboard, Chevron.

For 5v LEDs, you are correct.
For 12v LEDs, use yellow and black.
If you're not sure, use 5v. (red and black) -- 12v LEDs will still light up, just not as bright.
Most LED terminals use .250" female quick disconnect crimps.

If you connect power and the LED doesn't light up either swap the red and black wires or unplug the LED and turn it 180 degrees.
NOTE: If you have glass bulbs, they will have a number on them (555, 161, etc.) that you can use to determine the correct voltage.

question for using a arcade button to power on the pc.
do i just connect the ground and normally open connecters to the power switch's 2 pins on the motherboard ?

Do you just want it to power on when you plug it in?

Don't you want to do a shutdown instead of crashing the system by unplugging it?

Are you using a Smart-Strip or similar to power on the monitor?

Does the monitor automatically power on when power is applied, or do you have to push the button to bring it up?

If the monitor does not automatically power on when power is applied, do you want to wire your bartop so that one button brings up both the computer and the monitor?

wow thank your for that absolute perfect response.

as per the questions

Q.Do you just want it to power on when you plug it in?
A.it will be constantly plugged in.
i was hoping to use an arcade button to power it on.
as in push to power on, once on, if pushed again nothing will happen.
windows has the option to change what the power button does when pressed.

Q.Don't you want to do a shutdown instead of crashing the system by unplugging it?
A.MaLa has the option to power off PC upon exit so i will use exiting Mala to shutdown the pc

Q.Are you using a Smart-Strip or similar to power on the monitor?
A. using a 2 way adapter within cabinet which is wired to an external long power lead with single plug.

Q.Does the monitor automatically power on when power is applied, or do you have to push the button to bring it up?
A.Yes monitor powers on when computer is turned on.
no need to touch any monitor controls, it powers up with the computer .

Q.If the monitor does not automatically power on when power is applied, do you want to wire your bartop so that one button brings up both the computer and the monitor?
A.no need to touch any monitor controls, it powers up with the computer .

In which case, To answer the button/power question. Yes, just 2 wires from the header to the Arcade button and you will be golden.
