Finally posting pics of my first cab
« on: November 26, 2012, 12:15:21 am »
After seeking advice from here and from the guys over on Hyperspin, I finally have my first cabinet at a point I feel is ready for a few photos.  Ignore the computer you see next to the cabinet, that is the kids computer and not part of the arcade cabinet.

I am not finished yet.  It needs a new control panel (in the process of being built) and needs to be repainted with some artwork + t-molding.  But most of it is finished.

I did end up going with a 7" Liliput USB monitor to display controls via Marquee Magician.  Works pretty well overall, except with SSF (which will crash if it detects a monitor with resolution under 800x600, meaning I have to turn it off before I launch Saturn games).

The Aftershock PS3 controllers seem to match well with the LazerTag guns I turned into a pair of AimTrak light guns.  The Marquee is from Gameongraphix.com.

The Bezel is made from 1/2 black foam board.  I actually hollowed out the foam board to let the monitor rest inside it.  This eliminates being able to see the inner foam while playing (I think it turned out great for my first ever attempt).

The lower left access panel has my speaker control behind it.  Just open the door and you can adjust the speaker volume as needed.

Nice job, kinda looks like my first cab.

I stripped mine down to basics though after a few months.  I felt like having guns and controllers and all that extra stuff was taking away from what I really made the arcade for in the first place.... arcade games.  Console games don't feel right on a controller standing, or a arcade stick, and gun games didn't feel right with a EMS Topgun III, I wanted the real thing.

yours definitely looks fun though, enjoy!

WHOAH, That's quite the Appolo 13 mission control panel you got there.

It isn't quite frankenpanel yet.. It still needs a pair of topfire sticks and a tron stick.

I've already figured out how I plan to add my Logitech MOMO wheel for driving games (it will be removable so it doesn't take up CP space when not in use).

I think I will make some mounts to hold the controllers and holsters for the guns this weekend.  I want to get them off of the glass and out of the field of view.

My kids spend more time playing the controller based games than the arcade based games.  As for me, when I want to play a controller based console game I pull my computer chair up in front of the arcade and play away (love the viewing angles on that Samsung 214T).
