Cabinet Speakers
« on: November 23, 2012, 05:09:10 am »
Hi,

Im looking at using some 6inch car speakers and a pc sub/amp for my arcade cabinet.

not sure im im allowed to link to the speakers and sub or not, if i can please let me know and i will provide links.

anyway,

im not sure if the amp in the pc subwoofer will be powerful enough or not to run the speakers.

speaker specifications are as follows:

General Features
•   3-way 3-speaker system
•   Supplied with a pair of Grille and Speaker Cable (8.5m)
•   160mm P.P Injection Cone Woofer
•   Advanced Liner Spider
•   35mm P.E.I Balanced Dome Range
•   12mm Ceramic Tweeter
Power Features
•   Peak Input Power: 180W
•   Rated Input Power: 35W
Specifications
•   Sensitivity: 92dB at 1m
•   Frequency Response: 35-22k-Hz
•   Crossover Frequency: 14k Hz
•   Impedance: 4 ohms
•   Size: W170.0mm x 174.2mm x 78.6mm
•   Mounting Depth: 43.0mm
•   Net Weight: 610g (with Grille)

subwoofer/amp specifications:

Separate subwoofer for powerful bass
Driver Units: 762cm Sub & 2 x 5 cm Tweeters
Frequency Response: 40Hz – 18Hz
Power: 5W Sub + 25W each satellite
Ergonomically designed speakers
Power Consumption: 95V 700mA

from what i can tell, the subwoofer puts out 25w to each speaker. and the speakers im looking at has a rated input of 35w (not sure exactly what this means.).

im only going to be using them for mame/console emu/and pc games. not really anything else.

if anyone can help that would be great.

Links are good :) If you bung a link up for the amp we can confirm the power rating, but in the meantime here is some reading on speaker selection and Amplifier power :)

http://www.prestonelectronics.com/audio/Speakers.htm

The Amp should power the speakers fine, The rated power on the speakers is 35W (Which means you could pump 35W of power into the speaker for ever and ever without the coils or anything else overheating). The max output per channel on the amp is 25W so you will never be taxing the speakers.  I don't know what use a 5W sub will be with 6" Car speakers though :)

Hi I ended up getting this amp
http://dx.com/p/60w-stereo-audio-amplifier-for-car-motorcycle-golf-cart-red-91350 with a power brick.

Thank you for your help

I just hope that going from my desktop speakers I don't miss having the subwoofer too much..
