Name that joystick!

Here's a couple of photos of some joysticks I got on eBay last week.
The first is an odd analog joystick. It's got some kind of rubber centering mechanism that I've never seen before.
I haven't hooked up an analog stick before and have no idea how it's done.  Any ideas what it is?

Here's the second.
It's a very small 4-way microswitch stick with a long recangular mounting plate. It's got a strip of rubber above the plate (weatherproofing perhaps?).
I'm thinking it must be from a dedicated cab. Anybody? Anybody?

Top one looks like a 49 way ala Sinistar.

Well... forget about hooking up that first one to a pc unless you are a wiz at designing your own interface. Its not an analog stick but it acts like one. Problem is that nobody has really nailed down a surefire way to interface a 49-way stick to a pc. There are a couple of guys around that seem to think they have it figured out but I don't think anyone around here actually has one working in their Mame cab. If they do I'd love to see it. So you might as well throw that stick back in the closet and save it incase there's a solution in the future. If you want an analog stick then Happ sells one with a bat style handle but it ain't cheap. $100.00 plus bucs. Or you could hack an analog pc flight stick and put a balltop or bat style handle on it with a little fabrication. I'm not sure but that other black balltop stick looks like the ones that a company called Monroe used to make. I know that the game Gyruss came with Monroe joysticks and I think Time Pilot did as well. I think Monroe joysticks were primarily used in '80's Konami games but again I'm not absolutely positive on that.

he mentioned something special about the tension about that cross shape thingy at the bottom....

The first 1 is a 49-way opto... (Like the others above have stated already)...

The second one reminds me of the Donkey Kong sticks I've seen, but I can't be certain.

The first one can be Joe and the second is Eddie.

The second one reminds me of the older Nintendo joysticks like the Playchoice-10, etc.

Yeah, the first is definately a 49way.  Xiaox (sp?) can tell you all about that.  So can uRebel and me:)

Looks like a sinistar one too.  Though they usually had a white spider ont he bottom.  But that doesn't mean it hasn't been replaced at some point in tim.  Unless you have the arcade machine, that joystick is worthless to you.  No way to use it on a computer right now.  The conversion to a conversion to a conversion technique may not be very accurate  It can be done though.

The second may be a dedicated cocktail, but most cocktails were generic cabinets.  I assume it is for a coctail cabinet that didn't use buttons has it appears to have a large footprint.   But since it has a small profile it was definately for a cocktail cabinet.  And it is meant for a metal cp:)

Other way around, me thinks.  The white spider pic that most people are familiar with comes from here: http://www.wizzesworkshop.com/cart/product.asp?intProdID=20 (the source for the repro spiders).  He says he used a different material, so it's quite possible the original one was gray.  Or joymonkey just needs to clean it up a little better.

This spider is dark grey. Maybe once it was black.
I just noticed that 'Williams Electronics' is printed on the circuit board (very nicely done too). You can just about make it out in this blurry photo. So I guess that clears that one up.

I still can't find any distinguishable markings on the small 4-way, but from what everyone is saying I guess it must be from a Nintendo machine. From the CP photo on KLOV, it looks like it might match Donkey Kong.

The small one is likely a playchoice joystick. The bolt pattern seems the same, and so does the size. My friend in the next apartment building over has a Playchoice, so I am pretty familiar with those sticks.
