I'd like to have 2 controllers available for use with console games.

I bought a really inexpensive dual playstation-to-usb adapter on ebay (just because I had a spare playstation controller kicking around), and it bites. There's a bit of a delay when before a button press is recognized, you can't rapidly tap a button (tops out at about 2 presses/second) and quick presses just don't work (there seems to be a minimum button press time before it's recognized). Ugh. Like I said, though, it was cheap. I wasn't really expecting it to work, anyway, just thought it was worth a gamble.

Moving right along, I've now gotten very attached to having console games and controllers available for my cabinet. I'm really not comfortable building my own adapter, unfortunately :/

My options now, I think (ordered by what I'd prefer, ideally):
Buy 1 n64 controller (I already have one) and adapters (don't know if there's an adapter that'll take two controllers, or if I just have to buy two. I think this would be preferable, I don't have small hands, and I know the controllers are comfortable already.

Buy 2 SNES controllers and adapters

Stick with playstation and get a levelsix adapter instead of my no-name one, and get a pair of these:

(they match my cabinet!). Am I going to have trouble with 3rd party controllers?

PC gamepads: Gravis or sidewinder or something. These are probably the safest bet in that they'll likely work without much, if any fuss, but I've never held one and don't know if I'd like them :/

Anyway, lots of stuff. Suggestions, tips, etc. would be much appreciated. Looking for stuff like recommended adapters, commentary and so on. Money is an issue right now, tho. I can't spend $50 on the whole setup (controllers, adapters). Thanks for looking, and thanks in advance :)

Dude which one did you buy?  I'm building a arcade stick for my PS2 and I wanted to use it for MAME stuff I found a dual ps2 pad usb converter for 5 bucks but its probably the same one you got so I guess I will have to figure out a different one.

Anybody have any suggestions for a really good PSX/PS2 to usb controller coverter?

Yeah that was the one I was thinking of getting.  :(

I did a search and found this thread
http://www.arcadecontrols.com/arcade.htm

They refer to this converter as being a good one if anybody else can suggest a good one to hook up a custom psx arcade controller to the computer for mame use let me know otherwise I think I'm going to pick this one up.

Thanks

EDIT

Doh I just read the rest of your thread you already mentioned the levelsix stuff but oh well.  If anybody else wants to chime in here with other options feel free.

Alright, I think it's down to either these: http://www.computersurplusoutlet.com/viewproduct.asp?ProductID=JOY-BLUJOY
or 2 gameport MS sidewinders. Anybody have experience with the former (Gamez Joy Pad)?

I recommend the kikijoy (if you can find them).  They work with the latest analog Dual Shock 2's as well as the original digital sony ps pads.

I also wouldn't go cheap with those dual ps2 to usb converters (probably why you are getting a delay).  Just buy 2 of the single converters.  Save you a lot of frustration.
