I like the newspaper, but there's something about the white and black that's not blending right with the color flow of the cab....

I actually like the black and white in contrast with the screen colors. It makes them pop and mirrors the color/B&W combo on the sides

Hey, Griff, I don't know if you saw on KLOV, but Mystar just got in some NOS Atari parts, and there were some Paperboy pieces in there. Check out the thread "Atari NOS Parts" if you are looking for any replacements.

GeNeRiC on KLOV claims to have some extra Medium Res monitors. You might want to put a message in to him if Chad can't help.

Ordered my NOS Blue grips today from Arcade fixit, man there's something that stings about paying $60 for two plastic bike grips, but they are 80's original and considering I got a mechanically and electronically complete machine for $250 I really don't think I'm doing badly so far on this build.

I feel your pain bro! I bought NOS black Skeeballs for my Skeeball machine and ended up paying about $200 for 9 freakin balls. At the time it was a huge expense but I have zero regrets... they really make the machine shine and beat the hell out of making due with a generic replacement. Your handlebars will be the same way... yeah it stings in the short term but you'll be able to say that you've got * BRAND NEW ORIGINAL 80'S HANDLEBARS * on that beast!

I'm excited to see how this build turns out!

Not really, I need a retaining pin for one of the gearshafts as one just sheared clean off when I tried to unbolt it, but everything else is complete and solid so far.

Small updates.

The grips arrived and they are brand new lovely lovely 80's vinyl, I love the blue color, just the way I remembered it on the machine I used to play at the local arcade with I was 12 years old.

Took a box of parts down to the plating shop for chroming and went over them with the owner, he was really interested in the project and we swapped stories about playing Paperboy as kids. I asked him for a ballpark quote and he responded "About $500"

I started choking, staggering around all over the room, made some squeaking noises and fell to the floor. After he picked me up and dusted me down he said he'll look over everything in more detail and get the price down for me, so we'll see.

In all I am having all the pieces of the handlebar assembly chromed, so everything that is above the CP. He's also rewelding the bracket for the underside of the CP and he's also chroming the coin door frame, coin return frames and the coin insert frames.

It's all about the prep. Unfortunately, good prep for chrome is very difficult to do at home. 5 bills is still a big $$. Make friends with the guy and see if you can sneak a couple parts in at a time with other orders that he's already doing.

Yeah understood, I stripped everything down the best I could to try and keep the costs down a bit, but like you say there's only so much you can do.

Maybe you could barter some work with the dude? Are you a member of any barter communities? Maybe he needs a website, or a banner printed. You seem to be adequate around design software.

He said Nickel was basically the same price but not as durable. I could use cheaper alternatives, but to be honest, this is my grail, the most favorite of all of my games growing up and I want this to be one of the best in the world, so I'm going to have to suck it up. All said and done the total for the whole cab is probably not going to bust $1,000 so I can't complain given the money I've dumped into things like Revolution and the new VPin

Yeah, I know the enviro-s have really taken a chunk out of the chroming business. It used to be much cheaper, but the regs have really made it impossible to do cheap within our borders.

Meh..a grand isn't too much for an entire build.

Hey thanks man I really appreciate the kind words, glad my work is helping. Make sure you check out builds by Martjyn and Woodshop Flunky too, they were the builders that inspired me to start into this hobby mostly because of the excellent build quality and the detail of their build threads. Oh and if you really want to see master craftsmanship and amazing detailed build information look at anything by OND, DrVenture and PixelHugger, those guys are in a league of their own.
