Mini Project Announcement: NBA JamMA Dual Game Cab
« on: July 24, 2015, 06:01:22 pm »
NBA Dual JamMA project:

As you know, I put together an NBA Jam in a 25" Dynamo this spring for ZapCon and I love it. My plan was to run NBA Jam and Open Ice, but I since burned ROMS and converted an UMK3 to an NBA Extreme Hangtime board, and decided to make a multi-basketball cab. This Dynamo is the type that has the slide out panel on the control panel to access the board, and there's plenty of room in there to add another board. With that in mind, I decided to do the physical part of the project before I order the Mike's Arcade 2-in-1 JAMMA switcher.

Here's there original control panel access board. I mounted the Hangtime board to it since it's just one board. I made an 18x22 platform on 3 inch risers for the NBA Jam and sound PCB.

Here they are installed. Plenty of room. Right now, I just need to move the JAMMA connector from one game to the other and turn the machine on, but I plan to get Mike's 2 in 1 JAMMA switcher on MK3FAN's recommendation and put in a physical switch to move between games.

Finally, here it is together with the custom bezel I made. Phoenix Suns colors, with era-authentic conference logos and NBA Jam logos and instructions.

This is cool. Only drawback is I'd have to play as the Sonics.

Very interested in the necessity of or absence of need for on the fly monitor adjustmets and where you put the switch.

The monitor is fine for both. It needs some minute adjustments, but nothing is a dealbreaker.

I'll put the switch behind the coin door, as I don't want mofos switching on a whim.

That's a cool project.  I was getting ready to post over on KLOV in the "multi-jamma" thread to see if anyone had done a multi with NBA Jam.  Looks like I don't have to now.

Is yours 4-player?

No, it's a two-player Dynamo,  and the NBA boards can be set from four-player to two-player easily via the dip switches. The cut-corner panel is perfect, though I want to redo the button placement. I just need a new piece of plexi for that one.

Sweet. I didn't know they were switchable. Since it is 2 player I assume you are dealing with just a standard jamma harness?

Oh, and I went 2 player because a) it's going to be me playing single-player probably 99% of the time, and at parties, it's more fun playing 1-on-1. I mean, I wouldn't kick a dedicated NBA Jam 4-player cab out of my bed or anything like that, but this Dynamo suits my needs just fine.

Yep. The machine came pre-wired. I just replaced the joysticks,  added a third button and a 25 inch monitor I had lying around, and I was good to go. I picked up an authentic marquee a few weeks ago and was totally chuffed.

I have a buddy that has the Hangtime sideart, so all should be good once I get that from him.
