Hey Guys, obviously mame doesnt emulate the sound as well as the real original arcade boards, but can anyone recommend me some good speakers to throw into my mame cocktail cabinet to "attempt" to emulate the sounds as close as possible?  Right now i'm relying on the speakers from the monitor and they're just so garbage hah.  They can be wall powered but if possible would prefer usb.

thanks
Jason

I would recommend just some $20 stereo PC speakers from Newegg.  The audio in those old games was not high quality by any means.  I see a lot of people put high quality speakers and subs (???) in their BYOAC cabinets these days but I don't see why.

Any of these would probably be fine:

All you gotta do is mount them in your cabinet some way.  I'd recommend taking the speakers apart with a screwdriver and removing the actual speaker driver and mounting just that.

thanks Jako, would you not recommend getting one with a subwoofer?...would think having it sit at the bottom of the cabinet would rattle everything else in there pretty good.  I'd rather leave the speakers in their cases and just rest them standing up as I have some good ventiliation under each of the control panels..unless there is a good reason to take them out and mount?

This is what I have in my cabinet and I'm very happy with them.

I think a small sub like this works pretty well for the games.
and its nice with the separate volume pod. you can remote the volume to just inside your coin door or something.
I have my volume pod up on the back slanted part of my cab so its out of sight but easy to adjust.

Most real games just had a single uber cheap speaker even if it looked like they had stereo.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

I went with these guys...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836121013

I don't exactly have much room in the cab and i'm just concerned that the sub would cause too much raddle, i've noticed on some of these lower budget systems they really emphasis the amount of bass relative to the other speakers for some reason.  Hope I made the right choice...like Paigeoliver said..most games had cheap speakers so maybe going cheap and crap is the way to really emulate the old days? :)

$19.00 - I use this amplifier - http://www.amazon.com/LP-2020A-Lepai-Tripath-Class-T-Amplifier/dp/B0049P6OTI/

$4.88 - I use these speakers - www.amazon.com/BRS40-Replacement-Individually-Packaged-Clamshell/dp/B001RNNX8K/

Cheap computer speakers work too but it depends whether you can get your hands on a nice $9 pair and how well they disassemble.

Have this in mine and is working well. They are $33 and come with a subwoofer and has a nice remote volume control you can mount on the outside of the case someplace.

The speakers have a flat front to them which you can glue directly up on the woodwork on the side of the case.

I use the same amp as kahlid above.

For speakers, I went with these. Shielded, full-range, cheap.

Searching for Zwackery, not because it's rare, because it's fun.

Good choice on the S120's. You aren't gonna rock the house down with them but for the price they're pretty good. I have used about a half dozen of these....
