Soundblaster Digital 5.1 Audio?
« on: August 27, 2012, 11:41:14 am »
Hey gang,
So I just had to go out an buy a new 'Sound Blaster Audigy', but I can't get the digital output working.  I have the cable plugged into the back of the card in the SFPID port, and the other end in to my stereo in the 'DVD' digital in port (picture attached).

I'm probably not using the right cable to connect the card to the stereo.  Can anyone give me some input on how I should go about connecting this?  I think I'm not sure about if I need a Mono cable, a 3 or 4 pole mini-jack, or what kind of cable I need, or if there's any setting in Windows I need to try.

I'm running Win7/x64 and analog audio is working fine, just no digital.

Thanks!

You'll need a 3.5mm (1/8th inch) mono to RCA adaptor for digital out on the audigy series.

Well I've made a little headway, but still not 100%, so I have a few more questions...

Should I be using Speakers or Digital Audio Interface:

When I go into Speakers Properties I get this.

I thought all sound would be coming from the one Orange Digital I/O out jack on the card, like this picture:

If I plug the cable into the Orange Digital I/O I don't get any sound.  If I plug the cable into the Blue jack I get Left, Right and Center with the rear speakers working, but very, very low.  You wouldn't even know the rears are working unless you pressed your ear right up to the speaker.

With Speakers set as the Default I only get Left and Right sound when doing the test as shown below.

If I set the Default to Digital Audio Interface there is no test, and it looks like it wants me to plug into the Black jack on the back, but if I do that I don't get any sound.

When I go into Supported Formats and do a test with the cable plugged into the Blue jack I get a short burst of noise when testing DTS Audio.  When I do the test for Dolby Digital everything sounds great, all 5 speakers work, nice, clear, and loud.

And of course I do have Digital Output Only selected.

I've tried playing 5.1 DVDs in both WMP, and PowerDVD, but the rear speakers don't seem to be working.

Any more suggestions or thoughts?
Thanks!!!
