LED banner lights
« on: August 26, 2012, 04:55:17 am »
Can anyone point me in the direction on where to buy one of those LED bars that display text?
I saw someone had one connected to their box, and had it displaying the song being played. How is this done?

Thank you

I think what you mean is a Betabrite

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Beta-Brite-213C-Scrolling-LED-sign-with-available-ethernet-port-/180960024636?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a220ed83c

You would basically need a program that takes the details of the song playing and sends it to the unit.  I am sure that there are plenty of small scripts available to do this.

You could of course make your own.

Awesome! Yes that's it thank you

Oh cool so I wouldn't need a specific jukebox program, I could just run a script with the one I'm using?

I run zenpoint

The remote it came with. :))

I've looked in getting the cable and software. It's easily available on ebay, I'm just not ready to take that plunge yet.

Ahh ok so you don't have it linked up with a jukebox setup

No, but it shouldn't be too hard. It's pretty cool, and the remote is easy to use once you get over the initial learning curve.

I have a betabrite that has been decased. I believe it was used in a topper box on a PGA cabinet...it has the cable and everything and it's kinda fun to play with when hooked up to the computer. I'm half tempted (ALL the time) to put it out the window facing the neighbors and put "F*** YOU!" (editing not necessary) in bright colorful letters scrolling by over and over.  ;D
