What am I Building? ...Perry the Platypus!
« on: July 26, 2012, 09:30:39 am »
Hi Everyone!

Last year I built the American Ace arcade machine for my son's 5th birthday.  Recently, a couple of co-workers asked what I was going to do for him this year.  I told them I won't be building another arcade machine right now! :)

But, I am making the party favors for his party.  Any guesses what these are going to be?  If you know... you'll probably spot it right away.

Good (fun) guesses.

I didn't even see fish... but that would be really neat.

I was going to vote BB gun shooting gallery but kids are wimps these days and don't get to play with fun toys.

I really LOVE the idea of a BB shooting gallery... will have to remember that for next year.

My boys love the Phineas and Ferb show.  One episode, the boys build a "Perry Inaction Figure" (because Platapus' don't do much).

Anyhow, it seemed like a really neat simple project for the kids to put together and paint.  So were going to give them a bag of parts and everyone gets their own inaction figure.

Hopefully it won't be like herding cats.

And is the plural of platapus - platapi or platapussies?  ???

My kids love Phineas and Ferb as well.  I just showed this thread to my 14 year-old and she wanted to know if you were selling those.

Nice job.

Awesome.  That's what real gift bags are all about.  I love it.

I'm sure Mickey and his lawyers would show up at my door and give me a proper smack-down if I tried to sell these! :)

Thanks!  The kids really liked them.  Some didn't know Perry very well... but they still liked the nail gun!

Had my son's birthday party and made a bunch of little Perry the Platypus Inaction Figures for party gifts.

I made 14 kits... that's 56 little feet.  Sounds like a good job for a CNC machine.  I have a little Sherline CNC, and was able to cut them all out 5 at a time.  Once finished, I ripped the bottoms off on my table saw, and the feet fell out.

Bunch of parts waiting to be primed.

And after a good coat of what I'm calling "Perry Orange".

Some finished parts waiting for assembly.

So like I said, I ended up with 14 of these.  I kept one for me, and one for each for my two sons.  I did most of the heavy lifting, and just left the glue and air nailer for the kids.  They turned out really nice... and as far as toys go these days, they should last a long time.

Cheers!

Those are SO awesome.  I watch that show with my daughters and they'd freak if I made those...  Think I will.
