Clicky but adjustable, I just like that tactile feedback

Click or No Click, a rotary poll
« on: June 03, 2012, 11:00:39 pm »
Lot of threads about rotary joys have been popping up and I've thought about adding the feature myself.  Something about an auto switching Omni2 with a hotswappable trigger stick AND custom rotary input really makes my toes curl.

There are a bunch of different ways to implement rotary tho so I thought I'd put it out to the forum.  How do you prefer to play, what feels right, what would you like to see?

What games don't use a 12 point rotary?  All of the ones that i can remember playing were 12 point...

No idea, I don't think there are any, just wondering how much the click actually matters.  Also don't know if those games will move the character by the set incriment either.

I would go with "spinner" style if it were me. It would make it more versatile for use with games like Tron and Mad Planets.

Frontline, Wild Western, Tin Star, Sherrif & Bandido are all 8-way rotary.

Were you aware that users with admin rights can change your display name?  I have been made painfully aware in the last week or so.

My cab has two Ikari Warrior style 8way rotary joys that I bought used on eBay about 8yrs ago.

The rotary switch contact is a spring and you can bend it a bit to vary how hard or soft the 'click' detent feels.

Some versions of MAME the rotary motion is flawless and others I never get it adjusted right.  I'm sure newer modern rotary sticks work better.

I definitely prefer the tactile feel of a good click for each position.  For games like Tron I tend to use the trackball as the spinner rather than the rotary motion of the joystick.

I noticed a couple weeks ago your posts had Le Chuckie on them - is that what you're effing referring to?  I also notized that Wollie in nz had a name change.  I wonder if mine could be changed to TopJimmyCooked, 'cause I got a heck of a sunburn last weekend.   :laugh2:

Yeah, I've been through a spate of them recently.  I think most of the other recent changes were voluntary but one can never be sure.
