Finallly picked up a decent shooter cab
« on: June 01, 2012, 02:27:28 pm »
I've been looking for a project cabinet to start my Mame 2.0 cab build for several years now. I've just never been able to lay my hands on the right cab. These were my requirements:

  • Cab must be solid, not beat to hell
  • Must fit through my 31" basement walk-out doorway
  • 25" or bigger monitor
  • Monitor angle must be near 90 degrees (to make calibrating Aimtraks easier)
  • Under $100 for cab & working monitor

I had several other 'wants,' but those were my deal breakers. I was hoping to get into a decent Blitz or NBA Jam cab, but just couldn't seem to find one. The Golden Tee style cabs had the monitor angled too far back.

Last week, I stumbled across this beauty:

It's a Sammy Wing Shooting Championship cab. Snagged it for just over $45. From the pics, it appears the monitor is working, and the pcb has a rom error. Good for me, bad for the former owner  ;D

I'm pretty stoked about this cab - the shotguns alone are worth 3 times what I paid for the whole cab, EACH. And a working monitor to boot.

Alas, it won't stay a Wing Shooting for long - it's destined for 'other' things  >:D

Man, will my cab EVER be finished?
