Hot Key setup for exiting game but not MALA?
« on: May 02, 2012, 09:19:23 am »
Hey guys,

Ive built a MALA 1.74 frontend and am currently using it with MAME 1.39 though Im sure Ill upgrade to the latest MAME soon.

Anyway is there a setup I can do where I can make a hotkey (like holding player 1 and player 2 start or pressing player 1 start and A, B, C, etc) where i can exit back out to MALA but then I dont want the same hotkey to exit me out of MALA. Currently ESC exits me out of the game and also exits MALA. Im basically going to make a build where its not possible to exit out of MALA from the controls.

Thanks guys!

you can disable exit to Gui in the mala options via a checkbox.  Not sure exactly which tab it's on but ping back if you can't find it.  Then, to exit to windows you have to right click with a mouse and exit, regardless of how esc is mapped.

Thanks, I will get that unchecked on MALA.

I found a program called AllinOne that Im looking into using, just trying to figure out how it works.

Here is what Im thinking: Ill have start 1 and start 2 depressed (lets say they make I and J) and I will hold them for a couple seconds and then that will make lets say the button K. Ive found out I can go into MAME and change the Cancel UI interface which was preset to Esc but I can change it to whatever so Id change that to K. The Cancel UI setting also backs out of a game.

For those that know of AllinOne would the config file look like this then properly set up:

[Remappingkeys]
RemapKeysActivate=YES
KeyToRemap1=I
KeyToRemap2=J
RemappedKey=K
PauseBeforeRemap=2000

Just wanted to make sure before I got a chance to get down to my arcade and try it out. Thanks!

I haven't used allinone.  I exit games by making Esc a shifted key using an ipac keyboard encoder, so hitting pause and exit together exits games.

I ended up going into the MAME and programing Cancel UI to only be triggered if I pressed down Start, and buttons 1, 2, and 3 which is good enough for me so problem solved!

RyogAkari, thanks for using AllInOne.
If you download it,  you get an instruction pdf file!

Greetings!
