Garage sale score
« on: March 25, 2012, 10:27:42 pm »
Ok, by buddy Phil and I picked these up at a garage sale on saturday, unfortunately it wasn't a $50 each sort of thing, but we did pick up some A list stuff at prices that were at least acceptable ($1000 total). Not bad considering the people started off with a firm $799 per game.

We got a Ms Pac-Man cabaret. The board is the original Midway board but it has a "Ms Super Pac-Man" kit installed on it, which as far as I can tell does nothing but speed up Ms Pac, change the title screen and eliminate the ribbon cable/daughtercard.

We got a Centipede cabaret. Serials match on everything in this one. It had a few initial issues but I took care of them really quick (both mechs jammed, and whoever replaced the original trackball with a happ's one had the wiring wrong).

The Pole Position cockpit supposedly had a "bad monitor fuse" but it turned on for me and the screen came up, so I turned it off immediately and grabbed it. It is playing good, but it has a few graphical quirks, probably because the voltages aren't right. I need to do the regular pole position mods to this soon, chances are that will take care of the quirks (only getting 4.78 volts to the board).

We left behind a dedicated Frogger with no sideart and a very clean 25" Golden Tee 99' (with 2002 artwork) in an unknown cabinet. They were nice games but they weren't worth trying to pry out of the people's hands with their inflated sense of value about the things.

~$333 each, not bad -esp. since ms pac is the one game non arcade people still have an inflated idea of value about.  good lookin' out.

Wow, for a minute you made me think I had double posted on the same board rather than two different boards. klov and byoac look a little bit too similar these days.

Deja Vu... :dizzy:

So, lemme ask you this.  How many people wrecked their cars while looking at the goodies on the trailer.  How many husbands were boring whoever was in their car riding beside with grand stories of their high score prowess?

Good find.  I'd love to find a decent pin like that!!

Sometimes you just have to buy three of em so you have a backup in case 1 or 2 fall out the back.  :dunno

My GF wouldnt let me bring 3 home, so I had to "accidentally" dump one. HaRuMaN said it was ok.

Excellent base for a project. I'd paint the Pole Position black and Mame it.

Haha! No seriously... that is a very good deal there. You can still turn stuff up like this in the US. here in the UK that stuff is like gold dust. Even if the games are found they are nearly always in a generic cabinet.

Very nice. I don't remember seeing cabarets back in the day, but those are very nice looking.

You're getting some good stuff man.  First the Pong clone, now these?  Pole Position upright not so much, but this?  This is a nice cab.  I can't imagine these are horded up somewhere.
