Touchscreen jukebox project

Hi guys, fancied doing one of these for a while, been looking through some of the projects on here and it has given me a jolt to act!

Anyway looking for any input advice etc

I have a Paragon quiz with a 19inch touchscreen and an AMD athlon pc onboard, thought about convering this to a jukebox or removing the screen to put into an MSN Hyperbeam slave wallbox

The screen is too large to easily fit into the NSM, the window it has would fit a 15" screen without spoiling the glass it has, that is if it's possible to cut a sqaure out the glass? not sure if it's toughened or standard glass?

If I was to use the 19" screen I would probably need to make a new glass from perspex and that might spoil the look of the machine. And then would need to find a suitable pc and amplifier to fit within the cabinet and choose a frontend, freebox ,album player. And if coin op would be easy or not?

These are just a few ideas I'm toying with, all input and advice welcome,

Are you using firefox? or some other browser.

When I post, I see the "Additional Options" below the input box.

Click it and should should see an ATTACH textbox, just enter the filename to upload in that box and click POST

There should also be a browse button beside it.

Yes did all that, but when I click post nothing happens, reduced files to 200kb, will try again below

Weird. I don't know. There is a limit on the size of attachments, but it's a meg or more as I recall.

Interesting items. I like the hyperbeam cabinet more than the other (The all stainless look could work in some settings, but I'm not a big fan).

But that hyperbeam looks off too. I think it's probably that the screen and that "infinite tunnel" thing at the bottom are offcenter.

But still, I could see that in a gameroom quite easily.

Yes I agree about the tunnel bit, I might remove the glass and redesign the art, might look naff tho!!!

The Stainless Steel unit will be pretty hard to do anything with.  (see The Kiosk, my journey to a jukebox). Luckily I was going for function over form.  I still have to order some RGB LED Strips etc to change out my lights from the cheapo ccfls though. To be honest if I was to do it all over again, and I might as there are still a couple of kiosks at work I would probably just take the parts out (Touchscreen, Board PSU Etc and make a new box for them all to go in, something that could hang on the wall probably.


As for ideas for yours,  I would probably rip the parts out of the steel unit and install them into the Juke unit.  My only concern would be what is below the coin slot in the Juke,  is there a lot of mechanicals going on that would be an issue to rip out easily. (Although having a coin operated juke would be really cool I think you would be limited in your choice of frontend).   How is the monitor held in place on the Hyperbeam at the moment, does it sit in a welded frame etc etc etc.   It may be worth uploading some pics of the inside.

Really the best advice I can give is to spend some time looking through the threads here and gathering ideas as I think your best bet would be to grab as many good parts as you could from the existing devices and then either look for or build something else for them to go into.

Ok the stainless steel quiz game could run jukebox software easily I think, it has a 19 inch touchscreen and a amd athlon pc

The hyperbeam is a slave unit, it has no cd drive or much internals at all, it has no screen (never has) the window contains the mechanical slides that show album covers titles, once that was removed it is more or less empty apart from wiring and control board for all the lights

going to look for a smaller touch for the hyperbeam plus small form factor pc to run it, while I wait for that I'm going to play about with the quiz machine, but I may change my mind lol

I can also get my hands on other cd wallboxes and jpm proteus cabinets

I believe the NSM jukebox, just like all other jukebox manufacturers, uses tempered (safety) glass in their jukeboxes to meet UL standards in order to be approved for sale in the USA.

Thankyou Ken, I suspected it might be, so the glass will need to go! complicates things slightly, perspex is durable, I like a challenge (sort of)

I have converted those quiz machines before, you have the option of installing a more powerful PC power supply and using a car audio amp to provide an amplified output or you can just wire it to an external amp and speakers. the only problem i had with those was the weight of them, the do look really nice up and running but they weigh quite a bit and getting one up stairs wasn't fun.

If you want a wall cabinet then a sound surfer or video surfer will be your easiest conversion, I have a video surfer so i can still choose tracks without interfering with the video and it also lets me output video to other screens. To be honest I have not used my video surfer in a long while, it's just gathering dust now LOL.
