Button sharing?
« on: February 16, 2012, 03:17:07 pm »
I did a search but couldn't find the answer. I'm sure its basic question. I would like a spinner and 4 way joystick to be next to each other on the control panel with 3 buttons. Can they both share the same three buttons? Is this a wiring issue or software mapping? Thanks for any help.

Sounds like software mapping if your using MAME you can setup the controls to whatever you want.

Yes they can.  Wire everything normally and assign the required values from the emulator or FE setup menu.

Thanks guys. I figured it was as simple as that. I guess I was confused because I've seen plenty of CPs where different controllers were close to each other but had their own buttons. Thanks again!

You may only need two buttons. IIRC the only 4-way game to use more than 2 buttons is Mouse Trap and it uses 4. While I can't think of any spinner games that use 3.

Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.
