U360 will not load maps with Ledblinky

I am having an issue with my u360 joysticks with ledblinky and Hyperspin.
I am pretty sure I am missing something in my configuration.

The joysticks work good but when you enter a game through Hyperspin/ledblinky it will not load the maps (IE 4 way, 8 way)

I have joystick_map 7778...4445 set in the mame.ini file
Ledblinky is checked for the U360.

Try this - Enable the "Verbose Logging" option, then run your FE and launch a game.

Search the log for "UltraStik". You should see entries like this:

If you're seeing that, then LEDBlinky is configured correctly and is attempting to remap the u360s.

Next, use the Ultramap utility to confirm that the u360s are running firmware 2.3 or newer. If not, upgrade the firmware.

Both u360's are at version 2.5 and work with the ultramap utility.
I will enable the verbose logging when I get home from work.

Another thing you can try is to start up the Windows Game Controller app (before running your FE), then while the FE is active, alt-tab over to the controller app and see if the joysticks are in 4-way mode. This would help confirm (or not) that LEDBlinky is setting the map correctly. You can also alt-tab out of MAME and see if the sticks are set to the expected map for the selected game.

Ok.. Tried that and it didn't help.

The part that is confusing me is when I alt tab out set the joystick with the ultistick software it works fine.
When I go back to hyperspin it resets it to analog with no mapping.  :banghead:

Ok, here's some more things to try:

I assume the map (.um) files in your ...\LEDBlinky\jdr\UltraStik folder are the ones that installed with LEDBlinky. These can be checked by copying them into the ...\program files\ultramap\maps folder and test with the Ultramap app.

If the map files are working, next we need to isolate HS and LEDBlinky.

Use Ultramap to set a 4-way map. Then disable LEDBlinky in the HS config (so LEDBlinky won't run with HS). Run HS and alt-tab out to Ultramap or Windows Game Controllers dialog to check if the sticks are still in 4-way mode. If they are, then we know HS is not causing the problem.

Next try LEDBlinky without HS; set the sticks to 8-way, then launch LEDBlinky from a Run or Cmd window with this command:
...\LEDBlinky\ledblinky.exe 1
You should see the LEDBlinky icon in the system tray. Wait about 10 seconds, then right-click the icon and select Exit to quit the app. Use Ultramap or the Windows Game Controllers dialog to check the sticks - they should be in 4-way mode which is the default that LEDBlinky uses when the FE is expected to be active. You can also check the debug.log for this:

If the log shows the sticks set to 4-way but they remained in 8-way (or switched to analog), then something with the ultrastik.dll is not working.

Post the results back here (or PM or email).

Ok here are the results

Map files are working correctly.
Works in Hyperspin with ledblinky disabled
Ran Ledblinky from command line with set to 8way...lost the mapping (switched to analog) and it is loading according to the logs.

So that pretty much narrows the problem down to the ultrastik.dll - so lets test that without LEDBlinky.
Download this U360 Test app and put it into your LEDBlinky folder. Use it to set a few maps (4-way, 8-way, etc) and confirm if the sticks are actually mapped (using the same methods as before).

The app will generate a log file (UltraStikTest.log) if there are any detected errors.

If it doesn't work, try running the test app in Win 32 compatibility mode.

So it detects your u360's - does it set the maps correctly? Did you try the compatibility mode? The log file would only be generated if it detects a problem.
