I am planning on building a bartop cabinet and would like to throw in a nice cheap little Intel Atom processor in it. Last I checked (about 1-2 years ago), the intel atom (or any of the other low-power AMD variants) were not powerful enough to run these games.

Does anyone know if the new line of atoms are fast enough to play Mortal Kombat 3 and Killer Instinct 1/2 in MAME?

I can't speak for the new atom processors, but my 1.6 atom with 2GB of memory running TinyXP and only being used for MAME couldn't run full 100% for MK3.

I think you might be better off spending your money on a used desktop PC  and trying to cram it in there. The atoms are nice, but you can usually fit desktop components in a bartop.

What type of atom processor are you running? Is it a N4xx or N5xx series?

I think the AMD equivalent processors are a little bit better than atom's for the same price.

As for mame handling them, not sure, but you could probably emulate them using different emulators for console imports.

Unfortunately the console-based ports are not nearly as good as the arcade version.

That system is over 3 years old. I thought there have been some speed improvements in the atom processor line since then.

Ahh, if only I said something like "I can't speak for the new atom processors"
