Best way to plan/build a prototype miniature cabinet?
« on: January 14, 2012, 04:43:53 pm »
I'm thinking about getting some graphing paper and some balsa wood.

I would just use sketchup to build one, but I haven't learned sketchup yet, I don't have the time to invest to learn it right now, and I'm more of a hands on type of person.

Has anyone else built small scale stuff using this method before?  How did it turn out?

Anyone have any other suggestions / an easier way to do this before I begin?

If you don't want to learn sketchup then in my opinion the easiest way would be to have the electrical components to hand for reference and then build around those.  Use graph paper to plot it and then use cardboard (or balsa wood) for creating a mockup and build away.  (Basically I am confirming what you already thought).

Yeah, I've already got measurements for my XBox, TV, and Coin door.  I'm pretty much going to scale those down when I decide on the scaling on the graphing paper.  Hopefully within the next day or so I will have a nice little balsa wood cabinet made so I can have something to work towards.
