« on: January 08, 2012, 09:28:42 pm »

Type what's in quotations in a text field where you want it to appear.

"~l_name"

No, you have to use the MaLa layout editor to edit your layout file. Or create a new layout file.

Clarify what you want to do, are you trying to leverage information about your mame games to categorize them in different lists (i.e. Fighter, Run N Gun, SHMUP, Beat em up, Puzzle, etc.) that roll up underneath a tree layout?  or do you have multiple game-lists (defined it Mala) that you want displayed when that games list is active?

If you meant the latter then all you have to do is edit your mala layout so that on of the text fields has the string of code I mentioned a few posts up.

If you mean the former then it's a bit more involved, but can be done. See tree layouts in the WIKI.

currently i have made up 3 game lists in mala i.e Fighters, Vertical, Action arcade....and have added games to each list..

i can switch easily to each game list in mala...

what i would like is to see a heading at the top of the screen that shows a title (eg Fighters) for each game list.. so in effect.. i would end up with 3 game list titles.. (i.e fighters, vertical, action arcade) that automatically show up at the top as iam switching between lists..

hope that makes sense.. ill go through the wiki after this post..

Exactly what harverbirdman said - as the picture shows use your mala layout editor.
GOTO Objects tab then text - choose say text 3 then in the pattern text area type only
~l_name

then close and save your layout

Alright WoLLiEnZ!

It looks like you posted evidence of what looks like a new horizontal layout based on the other that I've seen of yours that is bad ass.

Surely you can make at least the background image available for a brother in PNG format?

Yea - still playing with the horizontal layout. Getting close but not happy yet.

Here is the 'almost' finished version. [PSD and PNG @ 84MB] [UNTIDY]

I just don't like the snaps that have hard colored edges as they look 'square' on my round boarder. I think the best thing for me to do is to 'feather' the edges of my snaps so they fade to black to my boarder edge.
I tried the transparent portal for snaps but it is impossible to get the .gif at a high resolution so it looks pixelated and naff.
