Cave Games, getting better performace????
« on: December 04, 2011, 06:58:04 am »
Am still using MAME 0.143 on my dedicated mame PC, it has a 2.8GHZ AMD sempron cpu, ATI X600 GFX card, 4GB RAM and running GroovyMAME. Deathsmile runs at around 85% speed, was wondering if this was due to GPU or CPU limitation when it comes to these new CAVE games....i know in the past MAME always been about 98% CPU power and 2% GPU is that still the case?

64 bit build will increase speed if you have a 64 bit O/S. For sure.

Yeah i thought it would. The only reason i asked is on my main PC (i7 4GHZ, ATI 6970 2GB) the game ripps (obviously), so was just thinking if it was either GPU or CPU dependant

search for slowpoke mame, that's suppose to be a version of mame compiled to run those games faster for older pcs

but, at 4gz you should be fine. I get no ripping on a i7 at 2.8 ghz (or 2.6, can't remember) and a 3.1ghz i3 home pc with a pathetic graphics card.

Try turning off your graphic card enhancements, it may also have to do with your mame settings.  These games are cpu dependent.

Well yeah to be fair i think the AMD Sempron is a budget CPU that probably why at 2.8ghz im only getting 85% speed form Deathsmile....i guess now the CAVE driver has been removed from the latest version of mame we wont see any performance enhancements from the CAVE games
