Good LCD monitor for vertical cabinet?
« on: December 01, 2011, 11:52:59 pm »
Has anyone found a good LCD for use in a vertical cabinet?  The ones around my house have horrible viewing angles top-to-bottom (which will be side-to-side once it's in the cabinet).  It will need to spin inside a 24" wide cabinet so I'm not looking for a big one.

Get the HP LP2065 or similar. They are easy to find second hand, or even new (discontinued in 2010). Use tftcentral.co.uk's panel selector to find other models with the same panel inside. There are some Dell's and Philipses with the same panel inside.

I just pocked up a Dell 2007FP off of craigslist for $70.  It is an ips panel.  They are out there.

Whatever you get make sure it is IPS.  I got one.. Best purchase I ever made. I bought a 20 inch off Ebay earlier this year for about $100

Is it safe to assume that I will have good viewing angles solely based on the IPS description?  Also, do I need to check them for lag or is that a non-issue with IPS panels?

IPS is quite good for lag. It is the only panel type that can deliver true 16m colours, with lag below 20ms and a below 10ms response time. With PVA you get better blacks, but lag up to 50ms. With TN you get faster response, but bad viewing angles and often a lot of lag (especially the larger panels >24 inch).

my vert cab is gonna use a Panasonic 32" IPS-panel TV.  I'll use a bezel to hide everything outside the 3:4 viewable area.  These tend to go for $320 on amazon, but every once in awhile they go on sale for $299....that's the time to strike.   :D
