Time Crisis on Playstation emulator?
« on: November 17, 2011, 10:56:00 pm »
I would just try this myself, but I haven't figured out how to set up any playstation emulators (Am I dumb, or are these actually complicated?). I was just wondering if Time Crisis is playable and if so, if the aimtrak lightgun can be used. Does anyone know? I never used to be a fan of lightgun games until recently, and now I really want to have Time Crisis working in my cab. It only runs at 60% on the computer I just picked up in MAME.

The emulators might have been updated by now so you don't need to do this, but here is the only way I know to make it work:
http://thetroubleshooter.home.mindspring.com/games/epsxe/info.htm

The troubleshooter software was made to be used with act labs guns, but I've seen examples of people using it with AIM-TRAK somehow.
I have act labs guns, but I've never tried this or installed troubleshooter.

I know that this isn't really an answer to your question.  But, if you've caught the lightgun game bug, and your cab has a CRT in it, you won't be able to do better than a Playstation2 set up for RGB (or whatever the best input your CRT can handle), a Guncon and a Guncon2.  There are many very good arcade shooting games (over a dozen) which can be played on this setup, and no emulation / hardware woes.  I have a setup dedicated to shooting games, and have just about completed my collection of all of the games which support it (damn you, rare and expensive Elemental Gearbolt).  Trust me, after screwing around with all of the other options out there, this is the only one which delivers the real arcade experience.  If you are running RGB, you can use a switcher to go between sources to make things convenient.

If it's a standard 15khz, then that's ideal.  That's an RGB CRT, just like the one I am using.  You won't find a better monitor for a real lightgun.

Here are the pinouts on the PS2 (and a bunch of other consoles.)  You just need a PS2 SCART cable to modify to get your RGB and Composite sync.

Awesome, when you said CRT and PS2 in the same sentence, I thought you meant TV. I just remembered that I do have a ps2 that I only ever played Guitar Hero on long after it was popular. It is just too bad it won't be right on the computer the way roms are. Thanks for the heads up!
One more question, is the playstation Time Crisis exactly the same as the arcade?

Blocky 3D graphics and all ;)  There are extras with the Playstation version as well.

See the following for all PS1/PS2 light gun games (I really need to setup a CRT for my PS2 so I can play most of these again)

That's definitely a larger list, but many of those won't work with a Guncon, and are a bit crippled by the old style guns.  Still, it's better than not working at all, if there's a title you really want to play.

Here's the list of Guncon/Guncon2 games.  Some are not NTSC, so make sure you can use them on your system before buying.
