Help with Low Volume- Cocktail J-Pac
« on: November 06, 2011, 12:01:09 pm »
I'm working on converting my cocktail 60 in 1 to a MAME setup.  I have most everything working but the sound is super quiet.  I have it turned up in the game and in windows and you can hardly hear it.  It was fine before.  I know I could just use PC speakers and it would probably sound better  but I would like to keep the speaker as is.  Is there a cheap amplifier or something I could use?

Here is a small mono amp kit that you can buy.   Amp Kit

Or you can buy a cheap stereo amp and use mono input to drive 1 or 2 speakers on a single channel DX Amp

Ultimately the amp and power supply from a PC set of 2.0 speakers might be cheaper.  Just use your existing speakers.  You might have to use mono to both stereo channels for the speakers to sound right. Or if your speakers are wired together for mono just use 1 channel.

When I build a MAME kit to install in a JAMMA cabinet, I mount everything onto a wood board, including JPac and an small audio amplifier (I picked up a bunch of kits a while back at an electronics discount place for about $5 a piece).

You can see the amp in this pic -- it is the really small board:
