please DO NOT DEAL WITH GAMES GALORE DE, Newark Delaware!
« on: October 07, 2011, 08:15:04 pm »
This morning I called regarding an ad for a free Star Wars Arcade Trilogy game that was listed on Craigslist (8AM). The person was giving other games away as well.

When I tried calling to leave a message, I got a msg that the mailbox was full. I emailed the lister of the ad and told them I was interested in the game, and their mailbox was full.
He called me back and I made arrangements to get the game after 5:30PM tonight. I asked for the man's name and he said Eric (I found out later it was Iric Sanchez). He advised me that the boards were not in the game. I said that's fine I will still take it. He said also that it looked like it had gotten a little wet. I said that's fine I will still take it.

During the day I started to get anxious about losing the game, so I called back to see if I could come get the game earlier than 5:30. I got voice mail but could leave a msg this time. I left the info hoping for a call back. The call never came.

At 3PM I emailed the person directly, because after looking up the number they had listed in the ad, it was Games Galore DE in Newark DE. I emailed them advising them that I still wanted to pick up the game and wanted to make sure all was still OK. I never heard back. I knew at this point I was getting blown off.

I never got any more calls back, and at 8PM I got this message from Iric Sanchez:

"Sorry I just got home. The phone has been ringing off the hook and 2 guys made cash offers for it and the boards."

I am pretty pissed off about this. After all, this guy actually posted the ad for the game(s) being free in the first place. Please pass word on that this guy is a piece of garbage.

Here is their contact info:

Games Galore DE
302-290-1236
Newark DE (Rt 896 by Glasgow High School)
owner: Iric Sanchez
website: http://www.gamesgalorede.com/

I will also be more than happy to forward on the original email if anyone wants it to verify. I didn't even bother replying to him. I want it known that businesses like this are dirtbags and it won't be tolerated.

I can scan and forward the original CL ad too.

A ---meecrob--- move for sure, but I have found with CL, I can't get emotionally invested in it until the item is in my truck and I am driving away. Way too easy to get let down otherwise.

But, I guess a good warning to other folks in the Delaware area if the guy puts up more "free" cabs.
Completed projects: Pac bartop (Plug & Play), 30th Anniversary Pac cab (MAME), Point Blank (PS1), Centipede (arcade hardware- light restore), VS. Super Mario Bros (arcade hardware- light restore) Tetris Cocktail (SNES), Arcade Classics upright (60-in-1, then MAME), Multi-Raiden (arcade hardware). Pac Man vs.(Gamecube),

Working on: Pinball Re-theme, Homebrew arcade arena shooter

Nah the guys a toolbox  posts stuff for free then says he got an offer for x amount, can you beat it blah blah  its a shame because hes the only `dealer`  around besides tnt
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

Grow up or find another hobby.

Seriously.

Yeah, I was expecting something more significant. This kind of crap just goes with the hobby.

This kind of crap goes with pretty much anything on CL.

It is strange. I am new to the hobby but I have found this type of behavior is much more common than it is in my hobby of beer brewing. By the comments back, it seems that this type of thing is accepted and almost even expected as being normal.

I really couldn't tell you if he was legitimately giving them away for free or it was a ruse to stir up interest but you were not scammed out of any money whatsoever. Just have to move on. (And maybe posting a link isn't the best way to get back at him considering you're giving him promotion).

There are times I've gotten stuff in this hobby for free; but it's usually friends or acquaintances who think I'm doing them a favor by getting it out of their hair. I feel that other people who are giving stuff away have an ulterior motive (otherwise it would have been just a "take it from the curb" scenario). Remember that if it's too good to be true, it usually is and adjust your expectations accordingly.

That is so sad.  Hopes were dashed.  Back to the Sega 32X.  :'(

I would feel unhappy if some bozo didn't give me a free Starwars Trilogy arcade machine, after leaving thousands of messages and filling his answer machine up, and doesn't call back.

I'm glad to hear that you have reported him on this message board.

That's it! Games Galore is not getting any of my Starwars Trilogy business either!

Thanks for the heads up!
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

Its the gamble of Craigslist...sometimes you score and sometimes you strike out. The free section is always the biggest gamble. Over 50% of the listings are typically scams once in awhile you will strike gold.

My opinion BUILD a BRIDGE and GET OVER IT.

Where anything is ever offered for sale or free, you have to expect the offering party to do what is in their best interests.  Usually the goods go to the first person to show up.  Never expect anyone to hold anything and always expect that someone is willing to pay cash for what you were going to get for free.  In this case, the guy wanted to unload some cabs Now, not later today, not tomorrow.  When somebody shows up with a truck and even throws in a few bucks to grease the wheels of commerce, well, what's the guy to do.  The long and short of it is that he wanted to get rid of some cabs and he did.  Sad, but true.

sometimes you do strike gold tho.

like the time I got a capcom blue cabinet with cvs2 naomi setup for $200. sold the guts for $400 on ebay AND kept the cabinet with monitor. so much win from that transaction

If I was giving something away to someone on craigslist, and then someone offered me $$ for it.. of course I would sell it instead of giving it away.

I saw a guy selling earthbound on craigslist for $5 bucks, I wouldn't blame him for selling it to the person who offered him the most money rather than the first person to contact them.

Sales go to highest bidder, or first person to get there.. not first person to call or e-mail.

It sucks though, but I wouldn't judge a business harshly based on that.
