People's experience with GameonGrafx...
« on: September 15, 2011, 10:04:49 am »
Hi folks. I just wanted to see what your experiences have been like with GameonGrafx. I placed an order with my own custom artwork on September 8th and paid in full. Besides a receipt for my order I haven't had any communication from them whatsoever. I sent them a message through their "help desk" thing asking if they got my artwork okay and if it looks okay to use and I haven't heard back from them. I understand that they are the most highly recommended art place to deal with so I'm not really worried but I was just wondering if this is normal for them or unusual? Sorry, I've just never done business with them before and I'm not sure what to expect.

Thanks.

Best of luck, dude.  Seriously.

Uh, okay. Can you elaborate on that a little?  :-\

The work they do is as great as their communication skills are bad.
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

It's only been a week. Don't worry about it.  I mean, I realize it would be nice if there were email notifications for every step of the process, but most of the vendors for our hobby hold full time jobs elsewhere and Scott has said before he doesn't print graphics for a living.

I've ordered dozens of pieces and they've always shown up.

Well then, the art should look fantastic. :lol
Kinda strange. Seems that I've read a few posts around this forum stating that Scott is good at getting back to people. I guess that's why I started this thread. My experience so far contradicts this. In all fairness, its not like I've been waiting a long time. No big deal. I just like to hear about other's experiences with them.

They say their turn around time is usually about 7 to 10 days until they ship the artwork. Have you guys found this to be the case generally speaking? And do they usually send you a notification when the work is done and the product is shipped?

This was my biggest learning lesson on my recent project.  Newegg has spoiled me.
In dealing with a few vendors mentioned on this site recently, including GoG, I've learned to chill out.

Couple weeks ago, I received my artwork from GoG but USPS had smashed it up, made little crinkles in it.  Took a picture and sent it to GoG, they put a new print in the mail with no hassle whatsoever.  Took a couple days in between emails though.  There was a holiday weekend in there too that slowed things down.

You'll get an email with a tracking number once shipped.  As for timing, that sounds about right.

Well wouldn't you know it? As soon as I make this thread it ships!  8) I just got the shipping notice! Timing seems to be about perfect. Less than 10 days.  :)
I kinda feel like I was being an impatient ass now. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing the great quality I've heard so much about.

Any of us who have built a machine knows the excitement you are feeling. With the arcade stuff, you order all the parts you know you're going to need early on but with the artwork, it's different. Usually you aren't entirely sure what your artwork is going to be and even if you do you don't know the dimensions till the cab is just about complete. When you order artwork, there usually isn't anything to do but wait, but who can be patient when the whole project feels like it's being held up.

Get working on your front end and cleaning up the bootup process. That'll kill some time. I always hated getting all the roms prepped/working right/mapped correctly/etc.

Yeah, that's my least favorite part.
