Help please - my tron mala theme
« on: September 07, 2011, 10:17:36 pm »
Hey all - I've been working on my tron art work [BTW can be downloaded in the art section]
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=113679.msg1207156#msg1207156

I'm a new comer to the mala theme builder but i think i have a good grasp of it.

One issue i can't resolve is the transparency edge issue.

Notice the blue outline around my snap portal is blue. Funny thing is the transparent function requires a colour to transparent.
My first choice was black - but the edge turned white (way to obvious) so i've gone blue (as that looks a bit better)
The best would be to have no outline.

Any ideas. cheers

Why?... because I could never find any art I loved on the net. So I played around with Photoshop and wish to share it with the arcade community.

Yeah, Mala transparency kinda stinks. It supports PNG, but not the alpha channel, so you can't have smoothly faded transparencies, which means you'll always end up with jaggies on rounded (or non-square) masks.

I'm actually trying to come up with a solution for that in Engine18 (an addin for Mala I've been working on), but haven't quite got all the kinks worked out yet.

Love that layout though. That kind of layout would work well with my slideshow plugin (basically, it rotates through various images associated with a particular rom with a little animated fades for good measure).

I'm not quite done with  that either though. Pesky things like a job keep getting in my way  :)

Cheers thanks for that - Yes sir `re those jaggies look awful. I thought i going to be clever and import a massive .gif then re-size it down with in the mala editor. HAHA that didn't work.

Unless i can find a way (excluding changing my background to white) i'm just going with this one.

+1 on the 2nd layout.  Solves the problem/limitation with round snap/vid windows and looks great.  plus, people don't read what the game is in quite the same way with a round window view of it, as I found when i played with a similar theme.

RESOLVED - there was a check box in options/configurations buried deep in.

GUI tab then Options tab then Gamelists/Misc tab
In there was Remove brackets from names (on the fly)
WOOT fixed it.

Thanks for that - another question i have...

See the game details in brackets Bomb Jack (set 1)
How do i get rid of the '(set 1)' bit.

I've clicked and toggled anything and everything in the mala interface but can't seem to change it. Maybe a no go'er?
Cheers
