I-PAC 2 won't install driver in XP 64bit

I don't know what my problem is.

I have an I-PAC 2 that I've just hooked up to a machine I've recently set up with XP 64bit. Windows detects the device as an IPAC 2, but then fails to install the drivers.

The IPAC works fine on my Win7 32 bit machine because that's the station when I got the wiring set up.

Ultimarc's documentation says that the driver is part of XP, and that there's no reason to install any drivers. I don't know why but my copy of XP doesn't seem to have it. Is there some kind of generic driver I can use for the IPAC 2?

This sucks because I have my new cabinet 99.9% set up, painted, front end running and everything but this is the last piece of the puzzle before I can play any games on it.

The Ipac is running in USB mode. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

(I emailed Andy earlier but haven't received a response yet and I am really looking to wrap this up before I have to go back to work )

This indicates a problem with the Windows installation as the USB keyboard driver is missing. You could try plugging in a USB keyboard and see if that makes any difference. I will reply to your email and we can take it from there.

Thanks, I will await your email. I do have a USB Keyboard attached to the PC and it works fine. Funny thing though, if I change the USB port for the keyboard, it behaves like the IPAC, in that the drivers aren't found and the device doesn't work.

Just for shits and giggles I tried just plugging the IPAC into the port that the keyboard has been functioning on.. it didn't work.

I see something similar at work from time to time. Whenever you plug in a usb device it recognises it then fails to install drivers.  In XP it comes up that there may be an issue with the devices firmware or similar.  our fix for the really stubborn ones that don't work even after unplugging and plugging in many many times is to boot to safe mode, remove all usb devices that are showing IE Hubs, HID Devices and anything else to do with USB. Then with no usb devices plugged in restart the machine. (Obviously if you have usb keyboard and mouse and no ps2 you will need to set the power button to shut down machine as when you remove you lose connectivity). Upon restart it should start detecting devices again and installing the correct drivers.
